District route inspection team showed up 3 weeks prior to actual inspection week and is trying to do 99's with carriers. Carriers are refusing due to health/safety concerns with COVID-19 being so crazy. So district says LOW for 1st refusal, 7 day suspension for 2nd refusal and letter or removal for 3rd refusal. They preach safety but want us to ride with someone we don't know all day. And not only that but do it 2-3 times before the actual week of inspection which is 2 weeks away. You can't make this stuff up 🤦

From what I was told office requested route counts in spring but district refused because of COVID-19. But now they're there doing 99's and street/observations 3 weeks prior to the actual week of inspection. Also heard that they're forcing carrier to close the sliding door to separate them but that there's supposedly a cut out that's plexiglass so they can see thru to the carrier. But even with masks the instructions say they must stay 6 feet apart. So don't know how that would work when carrier has to go to back to retrieve packages, etc and observer is right there🤷

Refuse on safety. Call the union president. All local unions have a safety team. Ask for guidance, since you are refusing a direct order. I have heard nothing about coved restrictions being lifted. they could be right, but they should willing give you written prove.

We just had 99 and they did not ride with us. I asked why and was told coved restrictions.

We did that on 1st day. 2nd day district ordered our supv. to write low for every once who refused to let examiner ride with them. Refuse again and it's 7 day suspension, then Letter or removal. Our steward is our local VP and he contacted NBA and they basically said nothing they could do. They have llv's they brought in that they cut a hole in the cargo divider sliding door and put plexiglass over so examiner can watch though it. But all your parcels and mail are in back with the examiner who could be back there without mask on breathing/coughing all over the mail and parcels that you have to retrieve from the back door which instantly puts you within 6 ft of examiner. Just doesn't make any damn sense.

Do the carriers wear their mask and gloves in the office and when delivering? If not, then they don't care about covid, they're just being douches. I've noticed that most everyone that pretends to care about covid, doesn't really care about covid.

I don't know what district you are in, however, in our district the inspection team does not ride in the same vehicle as the carrier. The plan is for the inspector to follow the carrier at a distance while walking, and in a separate vehicle when moving from park point to park point. You will see a lot of use of management time which will not count toward your time, but it gives the inspector time to get out of the vehicle and get up with the carrier prior to the next swing. I am really not sure how this is going to work for mounted only routes or routes that are primarily mounted.

In Suncoast District. Seems like every other district that has done route inspections within past few months has done so with examiner following in separate vehicle.
I guess Suncoast District is special. These examiners are strangers and we don't know their beliefs on COVID-19 in regards to whether or not they're vaccinated and having examiner sitting in back seat even if door is closed seems to go against USPS safety regarding COVID-19. Who's to say they'll keep their mask on back there because they can see you but you can see them because it's dark back there. And back there with them is all the mail and parcels that the carrier will have to retrieve and handle throughout the day.

Well I'm one that wears a mask all day and apies hand saniter every 10-15 minutes since in Florida gloves fill up with sweat very quickly. So I should be fine with someone riding in same vehicle as me not knowing anything about them or their beliefs on COVID-19. They could be non vaccinated sitting back there without a mask on breathing all over the mail I have to handle that day. No need for that. They should be riding in a separate vehicle until this COVID-19 pandemic is under control whether that screws up normal route inspection procedures or not. Cant preach safety then discipline folks for not wanting to go against the latest procedures regarding route inspection process.

I would say do what your paycheck can afford. If the NBA says there is nothing they can do... I am guessing that is the truth. But in reality, if you are vaccinated, wearing your mask, sanitizing your hands how much of an issue is it really?

Well honestly if I didn't have a 2 yr old grandson at home. I'm immunized but who's to say the examiner is. But if not for that I wouldn't care. I'm on the downward ride of my postal career and just trying to stay in 1 piece physically so I can make it to the finish line in 1 piece lol.

Seriously? Seriously? Quit being d-bags and using covid as an excuse. If you’re vaccinated you have nothing to worry about. If you’re super super scared wear a mask. How long are you guys gonna hide behind Covid to do your job??

My God has this country gotten weak.

Yup.

Out new MPOO just cancelled our staggered start times.

Strange how we had to be masked in the office and now have have congestion at the time locks. When 4 months ago the policy was different.

FWIW . . . in Phoenix we haven't been "ridden with" since April 2020. They follow in a car, get out and do their numbers from a distance. For boxes. Must be interesting for the data-logger to punch in the data for a stop & hop or an out-the-window/curbside delivery.

I was in North Plate, NE this week and watched an observation. Supervisor following the carrier. Mailboxes curbside.

Management will do what they want, legal or not. Now and then they will try a route inspection in the middle of summer, which is not pleasant here.
We decide which is right; and which is an illusion. I've got blisters on me fingers!
