Hi everyone,

I am a new hire with DHS and will be going through the process for a secret security clearance. Does anyone know what the current timeframe is for these to be completed now?

Thanks!

There could be different times involved depending on your position. Also as you might expect this is the slowest time of the year. Some of us are allowed to enter service pending a positive outcome. Even then it took months...

Does DHS use DoD/DCSA for their background checks? I don't think so... anyhow I think the backlog has largely been cleared and I would think 3 to 6 months now for a case without any unusual issues.

As the poet said your mileage may vary

DHS usually uses CACI, a firm that DCSA on contract to conduct background investigations. They are usually quicker than investigations done by DCSA federal “Special Agents” which do background investigations on the federal side of the house. It’s a misconception that the backlog is cleared because even though the field will start a background investigation on a Subject fairly quickly after they receive the case papers, because after the contract investigator or “Special Agent” turns in final report it has to go through DCSA Review process which is backed up. That means a Subject’s report May not be read by DCSA Review for upwards 3-6 months before it is released to the requesting agency that makes final adjudicative decision.
