I personally know of one person who went through the Academy pregnant. I don’t know how far along she was when she started class but think it was early on. There may have been others that I don’t know about. As for the wait time for selection - sorry. That’s just how it is.

I don’t have the specific demographics of DEA or the Diversion Program but based on personal observation I believe there are more women than men in the Diversion Program. There are also quite a few women GS-14 and GS-15 supervisors.

My advise has always been and will always be to “live your life.” Make decisions based on the “now.” Nobody knows what tomorrow will bring. You know, if you’ve been following this forum for any length of time, that the process takes 2 to 3 years. You also know they only have a limited number of classes of 30 to 50 students. And you know you’re not guaranteed you’ll be selected. So live your life. Don’t delay important things or decisions in your life on a “maybe.” If DEA calls then you can decide to accept or reject the position.

I wonder if we would have any fitness portion during our DI training? Obvs, we aren't SAs but curious to know if we have to meet/conduct some type of fitness.

You can walk the track if you want. That's about it. No requirements for fitness in the academy for DIs.

After we graduate from the DI academy, do we immediately go to the location on our FJO or somewhere else?

Lets say you currently live in Atlanta. Your new duty location is Las Vegas. You go to DI academy for 3 months, then you return to Atlanta. You have 60 or 90 days before you have to report to Las Vegas (your new duty location). In those 3 months after the academy, you will work in the Atlanta office and begin "training" and learning the ropes. During this time, you will have a one-week house hunting trip in Vegas (paid for by DEA). You will also have movers scheduled, sell your house (if that is something that needs to be done in your situation) and prepare to move. You can go sooner than 90 days, but will need to keep in touch with your new Supervisor to discuss starting dates, when you're moving etc. so they are in the loop.

House hunting trip is only offered to people with prior fed experience (Full PCS benefits). If you're coming in without prior fed experience you will get Limited PCS.

4000 new applicants...while they're still processing people from the last 5+ years of announcements.

Does anyone know how to find the list of possible duty stations? I went on the website but not sure which cities I actually look at.

I just applied to the DI position; I notice they want 4000 applicants. Do anyone know why they want so many applicants?

This is a LONG process (years at minimum). Several people will be disqualified at each step (questionnaire, proctored testing, interview, drug test, background check). Then add in the fact that you're looking at about 3 years from application to academy, you will also have people withdraw from the process due to finding another job, changing life events, no longer interested, etc. 4,000 applicants might lead to 100-200 potential people.

Once you apply, you should get an email to do a questionnaire. If you pass, you will get an email invite to set up a proctored test at a testing location. If you pass that, you will be contacted for an interview.

TxShortie88,

I sure hope you get selected to attend the next class. With you on board, I can retire. You're on the ball with so much helpful and accurate information. Thank you for sharing your knowledge and experiences you've had during the process with others on this forum. I hope you'll continue on this forum after you graduate. Knowing you'll be helping out and providing up to date and accurate info to new applicants via this forum I'll be able to lay back and eventually retire. Thanks again and good luck.

Thanks GearUp! Just sharing what I know. 2 heads are better than 1. I intend on continuing on here after the academy. It sucks feeling lost in the void, so the wise words of those who have been through it can bring a little light and peace.

Hey guys, I have heard back from work references that they were reached out to on my behalf. Any idea what comes next in the application process, and how long it took some of you?

It’s been a while since I’ve gone through the process, so I might remember things incorrectly. I believe after my references were contacted and everything else had been completed, I was sent a preference sheet for locations. For me, the entire process was around 2.5 years.
