Internal Revenue Service

As a bureau of the Department of the Treasury and as one of the world's most efficient tax administrators, the IRS role is to help the large majority of compliant taxpayers with the tax law, while ensuring that the minority who are unwilling to comply pay their fair share. (Source: www.irs.gov)

I just saw the VRP posted but I seems it’s for experienced agents since you need an exceeds or higher rating and I’ve heard new hires automatically get a meets rating. Is there any way for new hires to relocate? I’ve yet to be able to find an affordable place in my POD so once telework ends if I can’t relocate to my current city (2 hours away) I may have to quit.

Absolutely not. My understanding is you have to worked for 3 years before you can even do the VRP.

I suppose you might be able to have a hardship transfer if you have friendly management, but I wouldn't count on it.

How hard are you looking for a place in the city of your POD? Have you considered finding a roommate?

I’m a new hire and applied for it. I am about 1.3 hrs away from my home but that is because of traffic is bad and commuting w/ public transportation is about 2.30 hrs.

Where exactly was this posted at? I am having the same problem as OP. Been with the service for the last 2 years with an exceeds fully successful on my last performance evaluation. Thought I could make this new position work but the cost of living is just way too high in the area

NVM now the announcement shows up when I search it through USAjobs. Also got sent the email today.
Says we need two years in our current position, so doubt anything will come of this.

I looked a hardship transfer but there are no PODs locations anywhere near where I wanted to go that is fairly rural. Over the years I looked at the housing situation to relocate & that was really sustainable with the low pay. Where I want to live and where the jobs are has such a huge travel time gap. Life in the urban centers just isn't where I am at anymore.

Too bad there isn't a hardship to get a early retirement to be happy where I want to live in community about 2 hours from the nearest box store.
