I'm curious if anyone has (or has heard of someone) received a job offer after initial rejection? I interviewed for a position at USAID and was told though I had the necessary experience and skills, they went with someone else. I've just heard that the person selected was rejected during the vetting process. So I'm wondering what are the chances of receiving an offer if (assuming) I came in 2nd? I've worked in private sector where this has happened, but I wonder if its the same at federal positions?

Yes, I've been rejected, then received a job offer for that job. I was the second choice (first decided on a different offer). Chances are they've at least made a second if not third choice to offer in these cases, however that said, hiring managers don't have to take the second choice and in stead choose to re-announce the position (or decide not to hire at all). Good luck.

You're right there are lots of different scenarios. It's highly unlikely they would call me, but good to know that is even a possibility. Thanks for your response!
