Hi all. Lateral transfer same agency and same position. My step increase 6 to 7 (104) is due 03/2023. Spoke to the new supv. who said that it is the same series, grade, step so it should be no problem.
The HR POC for the agency responded like it is a new series, new grade, promotion:
1. Your SCD’s will remain the same except for your Date Last Entered Present Grade. That will change to the first date beginning the new job series and you must complete 52 weeks in this new series before reaching the next grade level (career ladder promotion.
Please advise if anyone knows the correct way for lateral transfer when it comes to step increase as scheduled. Thank you.

Incorrect. In a lateral position you don’t lose step label nor time between steps. I have done this multiple times in my career. Grade level has to wait a year. If you current job is a flat 11 and new job is 11 with promo to 13. As you said you are due to go from 6 to 7. If this was a GS promotion you coukd run into promotion delays. 6 at one level becomes say a 4 at next level while 7 promises to a 5. I’m in that situation now. I’m due to go from 8 to 9 in 3 months. If I got a promotion to next GS before then I could lose the step increase in promotion. With some job series they can have special pay in some cities and not in others Because of local job competition with the private sector. I was in a job like this. When I moved and changed locations for a GS promotion they screwed up my pay because I had higher base rate. Edited by user Thursday, August 11, 2022 6:41:43 PM(UTC)

Yes it is not a promotion in Grade. Just lateral transfer and I was concerned with their standard answer for my step increase due next spring. Thank you for your response.
