I am recovered from surgery number 5 for a back injury and currently receiving workers compensation.

My agency removed me from their rolls and had me apply for retirement to protect my retirement benefits.

My doctor says that I am as good as I am going to get.

What happens when my doctor says that I have reached maximum medical improvement and I am totally disabled? I cannot work at all. Will I still be able to continue to receive wage compensation which pays a heck of a lot better than retirement benefits???

When you filled out the retirement application there should have been a block to check to remain in receipt of OWCP compensation. If you did not check that block, you may need to contact both OPM and OWCP and advise them of this election.

I filled out the block to continue receiving compensation instead of retirement benefits. So, I am still receiving compensation.

My real question is:
What happens when my doctor says that I have reached maximum medical improvement and I am totally disabled? I cannot work at all. Will I still be able to continue to receive wage compensation which pays a heck of a lot better than retirement benefits???
