Confused Lew: Are you still interested in this position or is your decision to retire one that you either can not change and/or do not want to change now that you have submitted your retirement application?  Would you now consider taking that job a reemployed annuitant (RA) if ICE would still consider you as a RA?

Not sure if I want the retired annuitant or not.  I might consider taking one depending on the position.  I have been talking with an organization that wants me as an Instructor teaching Finance/Accounting & travel regulations.  That's only part time but the money is not bad.

I would be willing to talk about the retired annuitant tho.

Ooops just realized that I am retiring on a VSIP.  Can't come back for like 5 years or have to repay the VSIP amount.

Think I'll just stay with the retirement.

I'm a MSS with ICE.  I've only been doing this for about 6 months but really like the job so far.  I don't have anyone that works for me.  Mostly just manage financial, supply, and programs to name a few.

Hi - I'll include your original question and provide a response below.

Some days are fast pace while others are a bit more laid back.  It depends on what is going on in the office.

* Is your boss an MSS as well or do you report to someone out side of your career field.* 

My boss is not an MSS. I'm the only MSS in the office.  My boss is the Resident Agent in Charge (RAC)

*What location are you at. Should I stay away from certain locations?* 

Rather not disclose my location.  However, I'd say the pace in RAC offices appears to be more controlled while a MSS at HQ or in certain SAC offices tend to be more fast paced.  I'd say the busy places are HQ in DC, SAC NY, SAC Miami, and SAC/RACs in the Southern Border States.
 
*Most importantly how did you score when you got picked up for your current job? Did they do an over the phone interview or in person. What kind of questions did they ask? How long did it take for you to get hired from time the job announcement closed?*
 
As mentioned in the other posting, I scored a 105.  From what I understand, there were 100 or so applicants of which 15 were sent to my boss at the RAC.  He picked the top 3.  Made some calls to the top 3's references.  There was no interview but that all depends on the person making the selection.  As for a timeline, annoucement closed middle of March.  I received a call from my current boss middle of April asking if I was still interested in the position and he verified my references.  May 29th I received a call from HR Dallas asking if I wanted the position.  I accepted and completed all the BI paperwork they needed by middle of June.  Received my EOD end of September.  Interview with BI Investigator took place middle of Oct.  Started a week later.

Thanks so much for the info. It's really hard
to get a good idea of what you will be doing from the Duties tab of the job announcement in USAJOB's


 


- Could you explain what RAC office
environment is like? Is that where the actual Agents work out of? Is it probably more exciting than working in SAC's?


 


- Do the SAC's more or less provide direction and support to the RAC's. Like a head quarters of sorts? Is advancement better in these environments? 


 


- Do you think it would be worth a shot to acquire
the number to a RAC facility and ask if they have or foresee openings to try to
get a foot in the door? If so would I just call and ask to speak to the
Resident Agent in Charge? Also where do you think I should start to acquire
that number? I really want to stay here in FL and just realized there are more
RAC locations than what the job announcements show. Two being less than an hour

- Did you apply to an open announcement or was it a specific location that was opened and closed in a week or so? Would you think it would help if I applied to all the open announcements or just ones that are posted for only a week or so?

got picked up? I mainly have military experience and I am an ART right now so
I'm have relatable experience in all the rated catagories except HR but its
hard to directly compare military with civilian jobs just because we do the
same things only in a different structure. I rated out twice at 103 and 105 so
think I have a shot but will do anything to better my odds. I'm also taking up
collateral duties at my current job so I can put them on my resume so I may be able to get that up to 110 if I play my cards right.
