DHS
The Department of Homeland Security has a vital mission: to secure the nation from the many threats we face. This requires the dedication of more than 230,000 employees in jobs that range from aviation and border security to emergency response, from cybersecurity analyst to chemical facility inspector. [Their] duties are wide-ranging, but [their] goal is clear: keeping America safe. (source: www.dhs.gov)

Ok good! Do they let you know how well you do? Or if your out the running? My buddy got hired with the gov a while back and he said he went on a bunch of interviews and sometimes they'd tell him afterward if he "made it" or not and sometimes he'd just get we'd be in touch. Lol
They hiring more than one position there? I Wanted to apply to mt. Laurel I just assumed it was a small office.

My other buddy applied to a job and they checked his references before he interviewed fingerprinted him afterwards and he still didn't know if he got the job. Does IA do anything like this cinnamon? Is that it just interview questions and have a "nice day"?

I had 3 different Gov positions (including CIS) and they all only consisted of 1 interview, I think it may depend on the agency. I've also seen people get hired b4 their background check cleared, and some were let go cause they weren't cleared..

Sorry I am not just seeing this. They gave me a ten minutes to write something about myself that wasn't on my resume. It was unexpected, but that was okay. I thought I did okay on my interview. U can never tell with these types of things. Good luck to evveryone!

Wow seven positions that shoulld be alright. I can't see them interviewing 50 people for seven slots. Lol maybe it's more like 10 or 11 people for 7 slots. My hubby got hired for a federal gig a couple years back and there were 9 certified applicants for 6 slots so let's hope we all can get hired! Lol

There were 2 vacancy announcements in Cleveland, and I applied. I recieved three scores because the vacancies were for GS-5/6/7. I got a score of 102 for GS-5/6 and a 97 for GS-7. I am a Vet and current federal employee if that gives you some insight.
The interviews are sweet and simple. It's just for them to judge your character, personality, and psycholigical reactions. HR has 30 days after the last person interviews off the certificate to make a selection.

The only geographic location that could have a lot of vacancies was Newark NJ. Are we talking about vacancy number 510646? It is for a GS 5/7. When I applied for it it said Many for the amount of openings, so its at least 4 probably more.

They don't check references unless your selected for the position, that's part of the background investigation. PinkIO2011-09-23 13:50:46

If you have a scheduled interview the hiring office can check your references, including your current employer. I had an interview for an FDNS position and the supervisor of that office called my current supervisor. However, I was not chosen for the job. Point is they can check your references but it does not mean you are 100% selected until you get a tentative offer.
