Just applied for a position with HUD.

Hopefully the candidate pool is small based on the lack of interest from this forum.

What position did you apply for? Do they advertise via USAJobs? I have yet to come across a vacancy announcement with HUD on USAJobs. I maybe wrong tho...

Your assumption is laughably incorrect. A GS-9 job without any highly specialized experience or education can easily attract *a lot* of applicants.

you know I was being funny right?

I was trying to focus on the fact that the HUD section was dry.

Read through the thread on "How budget affects start date.." from last year. You will hear from many people who were offered jobs by HUD, strung out for six months, then told that the offers were rescinded. Be careful with this organization!

As a current HUD employee and the initiator of the aforementioned discussion, last year's budget issues and this year's sequestration are challenging. But to answer your question, I would say this forum is relatively inactive because HUD tends to hire in spurts rather than consistently through the year and unfortunately, these spurts tend to happen once every few years.

Anyways, as a new HUD employee, I've found the learning curve to be steep, but the community is welcoming, especially to the folks who have been with HUD for less than five years. I've worked with folks in Fair Housing and the office seems exciting and the issues they deal with are inspiring. While I wouldn't rest entirely on that EO Specialist position necessarily or a promise of a quick response, I'd continue to apply. Anyways, my break is almost up, but I wanted to put in my two cents!

Looks pretty dead here.

One reason why there isn't much activity here is that although HUD is a cabinet level department, it only has something like 9.000 employees. Pretty small compared to DOD or the Postal Service. Another is that there is little hiring going on.
