I applied for a position with HUD last month and the status shows as "reviewing applications" under comments, but also shows "certificate sent to selecting official" under vacancy status. What does this mean? Any ideas? I was really hoping to be referred and then selected for interview, but this is confusing. Thanks.

The certificate is the list of applicants who have been referred to the selecting official. You may or may not have been referred.

Hello all,
I also applied for the Housing Program Specialist position. However, I received a rejection letter stating that I didn't rate high enough for the position. Additionally, the comments section states "Eligible veterans are blocking DEU certificate." Can anyone help me understand this comment? Thanks!

I received the same "app did not rate high enough to be referred". I applied using my spouse's disability since he is 100% disabled. That makes me an XP candidate, which allows me to move to the top of the "Good" category where they rated me. I emailed the HR contact and I was surprised to get a prompt response. She explained that there are 3 categories (Good, Better, Best) and several vets applied and were placed in the "Best" category. Because of that, they didn't pull anyone from the "Good" category for the cert list. If you were not a vet or applying under a special hiring authority, that may be why you didn't rate high enough. It's a very frustrating experience!

Hi legaleagle - How did you submit your application to receive veterans preference? I have the application from OPM, however, I couldn't find the address to send the application. Maybe this will assist me in my endeavors. :-).

Hi futfedemp, I submitted my app online and included my husband's DD214 and Vet Letter, which details his disability percentage. They normally include the info for applying for the preference in the announcement.
