DHS
The Department of Homeland Security has a vital mission: to secure the nation from the many threats we face. This requires the dedication of more than 230,000 employees in jobs that range from aviation and border security to emergency response, from cybersecurity analyst to chemical facility inspector. [Their] duties are wide-ranging, but [their] goal is clear: keeping America safe. (source: www.dhs.gov)

I only have 10% rating from the VA so I probably wouldn't take as long.

Just out of curiosity, those of you that have been posting about the medical wait, had everything else been done for a while? Like sf-86, background, etc?

I personally had everything done drug test, sf 86, initial medical exam done last year... it's the medical exams that take forever. You gotta get additional exams if you have any VA compensation

How long did it take your background investigator to complete their interviews with everyone?

Yea, most likely the investigator is just going to show up to someone you have listed before they contact you... it will take a few weeks to months for this to happen... also there are several investigators working on your packet. At least that's what my experience has been....

I'm going to FLETC in January, I'm just going to get into FPS by way of the contacts down there. They have an office there and don't mind poaching new grads from the DoD lol

Is it a Top Secret or just a Secret for the background? Usually a secret you won't hear from an investigator.

For all you waiting, I understand FPS HR has lost some employees in the last couple of months. I don't know if they will get any help or if work on the 'list' will just stop/slow even more.

This process is not just a clearance like we receive in the military, it includes a Public Trust background investigation, this is a suitability investigation - in other words, you may "qualify" for a security clearance but not be "suitable" for a law enforcement position. Single Scope Background Investigation (SSBI) - is conducted for Special Sensitive/Critical Sensitive positions (Top Secret or TS/SCI) Access National Agency Check and Inquiries (ANACI) - is conducted for Non Critical-Sensitive positions (Secret) I will add, that you can pass your BI and not be granted a security clearance with some agencies; having a background check done via a SF-86, may grant you eligibility, but you do not receive a "clearance" unless you have: "eligibility + signed SF-312 + need to know". There are many people who have had investigations completed and maintain "eligibility" without being granted access because they simply do not have a need to know until such time a supervisor authorizes it. Again, this is separate from a suitability determination for a law enforcement position.
