Anyway, I don't see it going away. Recall that Nixon was in office when it was started, though of course many things were a bit different in '70 and I don't just mean disco, and the following stagflation and oil crisis. At the very least, it's good PR to keep it going. However, I do predict a reduction in regulatory authority and a shrinking of the agency. It's not really the "favored son" right now.
