Internal Revenue Service

As a bureau of the Department of the Treasury and as one of the world's most efficient tax administrators, the IRS role is to help the large majority of compliant taxpayers with the tax law, while ensuring that the minority who are unwilling to comply pay their fair share. (Source: www.irs.gov)

Hill spending bill unlikely to fulfill Trump promises @CNNPolitics http://cnn.it/2pHXdg2

We'll see how cranky he gets, then.

White House demands disrupt shutdown negotiations http://politi.co/2pJp1Ez

The clock is running out and a remainder of the year CR would be stupid.

One of our resident lunatics at Cleveland was talking about having some of the lunatic's colleagues consider the use of Telegram: https://telegram.org/

Something about a group chat, keeping the lines of communication open, the lunatic's lead getting worried about Congress trending in the wrong direction, and other crap like that.

Hopefully people are more optimistic at the other sites. At least taxpayers are optimistic as 55 keeps going AHOD. Nobody wants to talk to us on the phones as they all want to see FA.

Yeah, and FA doesn't have enough employees. They haven't hired ITAS in long time. A lot offices were closed and there's a bunch who only have 1 or 2 employees...

Love is in the air...for discord apparently.

The White House Seems Excited to Shut Down the Government http://www.newyorker.com/news/r...shut-down-the-government

Budget woes stretch beyond agency contracting office while Congress debates federal funding https://federalnewsradio.com/bud...debates-federal-funding/

“White House Orders Agencies to Prepare for Potential Government Shutdown.” Bloomberg.com, April 21, 2017. https://www.bloomberg.com/politi...down-as-agencies-prepare.

Supposedly we have a newly-updated contingency plan for IRS posted on Treasury's website but I cannot access it from home. It is asking for login credentials, of all things. Viewing it will have to wait for later in the week, I suppose.

Hello all - overheard at Brookhaven the possibility of 'administrative furlough' were it seems back pay after shutdown would not be available. Not sure if this is really what that means or if it is part of 'newly-updated contingency plan for IRS posted on Treasury's website'. We certainly live in interesting times. comments?

Still no bill number, still no bill text. We're getting daily updates from the union office at Cleveland. Majority Leader's floor agenda for tomorrow shows a busy day not hitting appropriations.

Clock remains running. I suggest checking HRConnect to make sure all your contact details are up to date. See also: https://www.timeanddate.com/coun...+Lapse&font=sanserif

ZeroHedge is usually right in their reporting and right now Schumer of NY is still set to screw things up if he can keep his Democrats united. This will come down to the wire. Meanwhile people are apparently checking out the Telegram app for group chat at Cleveland during any troubles.

With the wall and healthcare off the table, Pelosi is signaling a deal. Looks like there will be a CR until May 5 so they can hash out a longer CR. Guess they shouldn't have taken that 2-3 week vacation

Last word that Zero Hedge posted on their microblog mirror: "Stopgap bill in trouble: Schumer says Republicans need to drop demands for “poison pill” policy provisions in omnibus spending bill"

House Rules Committee live stream still shows the committee in recess. They still haven't reported a rule out to allow floor consideration of HJR 99. It is all well and good that President D. J. Trump expects to sign it but it still has to get to him first. The hearing started at 1730 ET and Hastings of Florida excoriated Republicans in the hearing for being unable to get their act together. Lowey of New York also called the President ignorant and incompetent during the hearing.

2203 ET and still nothing reported out of the House Rules Committee. The House under Paul Ryan has done weird stuff like be up at 3 AM before. I'll check when I get up in a few hours to get ready to go to the POD but if there's no rule even reported out by then perhaps we're in trouble.

According to the Majority Leader's schedule at https://www.majorityleader.gov/weekly-schedule/ the last votes are expected no later than 3 PM ET tomorrow. Unless the schedule gets defenestrated, we'll know while we're on duty if this gets screwed up. Proceedings start at 10 AM ET with legislative business kicking off at 12 PM ET. The rolling stream that looks kinda like JOC log can be found at http://clerk.house.gov if you want to try watching events get logged during the day.

Thank you for the updated info. At my pod today, we were scrambled to input our time into sets before 2 pm because things were getting locked down. There was even talks of us not having overtime tomorrow because of a shut down. Guess we will know soon

The rule for consideration was reported around 2330 ET. Game on today, I suppose. We are cutting it awfully close.

IIRC, they've technically let appropriations lapse for a couple of hours on a weekend and signed the CR extension on a Saturday morning so as not to affect M-F day shift employees. Guess we'll see what happens today.

House is voting on passage now. The vote had been opened at 10:38:26 AM. Votes normally last only 15 minutes or less. It is still open 40+ minutes later...
