the fbi has a specific format and specifications for the way they want your resume. mine ended up being 3 full pages.

this does fall out of the typical 1-page resume parameters for most professional jobs, but i think you're getting a little long at 7 pages. i mean, someone may have to read this thing without going into a coma.

keep your bullet points precise, but this doesn't need to be a persuasive essay.

Exactly what he said. Mine was 3 pages...I followed the format they gave me to a T. Figured I couldn't go wrong with that. You should absolutely trim it up if it's 7 pages.

Any idea how long it should be?

No matter what I will take my resume and if it's too long they will let me know. I passed Phase 1 many years ago and did one Meet and Greet however; I lacked a lot of experience since I was very young. Hope I have a better chance now.

I followed the Federal Resume Template that the FBI provided exactly. My resume was about 6 pages long. No one ever told me it was too long and it worked out for me, so I wouldn't worry too much about the length. You need to more so focus on making sure your resume paints a very good picture of how you and your experience meet the FBI's core competencies.

probably doesn't matter at the end of the day, but i'm just suggesting to use some discretion and cut it down. i only included my work history post college. i don't think they care about the hot dog stand you worked at in your sophomore year summer.

Just got a call this week from the background investigator - they'll be contacting my current supervisor next week and speaking with my current neighbors around the same time. No one else from my references have been contacted, to my knowledge ... As a matter of course, doesn't the FBI try to contact your current supervisor last?

That's what I have heard, but for your reference my supervisor was interviewed in December and a couple of friends were interviewed in April so it really all depends.

I believe you just need to notify your AC and let them know where and for how long.

Cool - thanks. I believe some folks have gotten those monthly update e-mails and one of them mentioned travel while in BI but I didn't get that one.

I asked my AC and was told that they may require some follow-up from you afterwards, but all they need is a heads-up. When asked if traveling abroad would delay my BI, the AC said that it could definitely impact the timeline depending where/how long one travels.

... In other news, all of my references have been contacted via phone or sat down with the investigator for a face-to-face interview as of today ...

Good news basher on your references being contacted. You're one step closer.

Anon, I'll also second what basher wrote. I had the opportunity to travel overseas for work and got the same feedback from my AC. You can do it, but it may slow your BI because they'll have to look into it. I turned down the opportunity and my employer understood and supported me.

Hello all. I've been lurking this thread for a long time and figured I'd jump in. My timeline is below to give you context. It's been a long road, just like many others'. I can echo the anxiety and uncertainty of everyone stuck in the black-hole that is the background investigation. I haven't quite reached the one year mark but, given that September is the last class date of the year and it's only a month away, I feel confident that I will become a member of the "Year(s)-Long BI Club".

Here is my impression of the BI and that effect the length of time it takes to complete (Disclaimer- I have no firm knowledge): significant foreign travel, living in many different places, having multiple jobs/employers, foreign contacts, the size of the field office you process through.

I was told that September is full (sorry to be the rain cloud) and that the FBI has been approved for 5 classes in 2018 starting in January. I assume this is all dependent on budget.

I have also received the automated emails letting me know that my application is still "active." I'm supposed to receive one today but haven't, cue the theories.

Good luck to everyone going through the process. Calling it a roller-coaster is spot on.
