Unfortunately I managed to place a nice sized dent in the side door of the federal vehicle I took for business travel. Since its not a emergency and doesn't stop me from anything I'm waiting to call it in during normal hours.
How bad can this be? I'm a bit worried. I don't mind taking responsibility in all but I am a new employee and of course this cant possible look good.

As long as it wasn't due to gross negligence, you should be okay. There will be some paperwork involved, but shouldn't be that big a deal. I put a GOV ride into a side ditch many moons ago. Hit a patch of black ice, did a couple 360s , took out two reflector posts, and into the ditch. Entire front quarter panel destroyed, bent rims, and I still had another 6 hour drive to get home. Good times.

I would let my supervisor know. Bad news does not age well. Hiding it is even worse.

Not a big deal, but the fact that you did not report it when the incident occurred, possible problem.
I drive roughly 600 miles a month or more in a fed car, so the likelihood of me getting a fender bender is pretty good. In 15 years I have been in an accident 2x, I did the paperwork, never heard about again.
