Thanks: 1 times
Ed, Good morning,
Is five years service required to carry FLTCIP into retirement?

There is NO minimum number of years of FLTCIP requirement while an individual is an employee in order to keep FLTCIP coverage throughout one's retirement. In fact, an individual does not have to be enrolled in the FLTCIP while an employee and can apply for coverage after retiring from Federal service.

I'm 62 and looking at my options to cover long term care for my wife and me. We have reviewed the FLTCIP website and read many of the brochures. This looks like a good insurance option compared to what I could buy from other insurance companies. My question is does anyone have any experience with this benefit? Are you satisfied? Any opinion on the selection of “automatic Inflation" options compared to just getting the FPO - Future Option Purchase feature?

You should contact an independent licensed long term care insurance broker in your state in order to evaluate the long term care insurance options for you and your wife. Be careful about the FLTCIP - the premiums have skyrocketed in recent years and will continue to do so as fewer employees and annuitants sign up for the program.
