I have a quick question about the PFT hoping someone can answer. When it says this is a continuous motion exercise in the PFT video does that mean that one cannot stop to rest while doing the exercise?

So like for sit-ups we can’t stop on the ground for like three seconds and then keep going afterwards? Or pushups can we stop on the pushup position then keep going down when ready to do more? And the 1.5 mike run can we walk for a sec then keep running or is it all running?
Application: 10/17

Test Results: 01/18
M&G: 02/18
Rank: 03/18
Phase 2: 05/18

I would imagine for the run portion you could walk and continue fine. However, it's my understanding that for pushups/situps you cannot rest in the down position, but I'm not sure if you did in the up position if it would be ok. Does the video explanation of the PFT address this?

You cannot pause to rest at all, in any position, for the push-ups or sit-ups. You can walk or stop during the run, but for the sake of passing the test I would make sure you're in good enough shape and practiced enough in your pacing to not do that. The PFT is not easy - my AC said that close to two thirds of the people from my field office fail it (which is amazing considering that everyone knows the standards for many months prior to taking the supervised post-P2 test).

Hello all,

Long time browser and finally making a post.

I've applied in early December 2017, have passed the P1 in early January and have still not heard anything regarding M&G. I understand that this process can take up to a year, but my timeline seems rather slow relative to most other applicants here that I see.

Is this something I should be concerned with, or is it just more 'hurry up and wait'?

This is highly unusual. I would double check for emails and reach out to the applicant coordinator for an update.

For the sit-up portion of the PFT, is it easier with your spotter placing their knees on your toes or not?

I believe it is easier to have a more solid base on your feet to keep you as stable as possible (knees = yes), giving you the leverage to go faster on sit ups. But this is easily tested with a friend and you may find it more comfortable to not have it.

My timeline is about the same as yours. I applied at the end of December. I was invited, took and passed the phase 1 in February. I had my meet 2 days ago. It might depend on the office that you are applying out of. Hopefully they will contact you soon!

Don't know if someone has an answer to this question but apparently back then FBI could potentially DQ you after calculating your BMI and being found overweight. Is this still true? or is it that as long as you pass the PFT you should be fine?

You will be weighed and your height will be measured during your medical exam. However, I don't know whether BMI is a criteria they consider. Where did you hear that it was?

Reading through older forums, someone had mentioned they calculate your BMI in medical and take it into consideration when deciding to hire you or not

Fellow applicants,

Spoke with my AC this week about a Phase II invite. I received my Competitive ranking on 3/14/18 - a week after my M&G. I was told that applicants out of my recruiting office are invited to Phase II at the Los Angeles office for which the next Phase II is scheduled for this summer. Just an update.

The BMI question got me wondering. Any other big guys on here. I'm happy to say that I can pass the PFT but at 250 i'm not sure how many others are in my range.

I weighed in a little over 230 (6ft tall) at my physical. I have a pretty small waist and am normally about 12% BF. I'm just heavy from lifting. The Doc and I had a good laugh about me being "obese" lol, nothing to worry about.

I received my ranking in Southern California on March 20, three weeks after my M&G. Should I assume that information extends to all West Coast offices? Or simply for your office? I’m departing from the USMC and will be moving to the East Coast and will likely have to transfer my application to an alternate office at the end of the month.

Doesn't seem so, but of course this a limited sample of real life applicants - but, based on how things have gone over the past few months, I would say there is a high probability of you moving on to Phase II. I would certainly suggest continuing to prepare as though you received a most competitive ranking with a guaranteed PII slot. Congrats on the ranking!

You will likely get an invite. I believe everyone with a competitive ranking will get invited to Phase II, but those ranked most competitive will get priority.
