I'm sure you're not alone...
Also - one tip if you don't know anyone on the inside is to get the position title and hit LinkedIn HARD on anyone that may have a title you're interested in. At the very least you may find a hiring manager and your name will potentially pass across their eyes on a notification.
That's the least you could do to get some traction on the inside without directly knowing anyone.

Keep your head up and stay CHEESY!!!

Thanks for the input.

I'm a Java/C++/web GS12 software developer (comp sci degree) for DOD and I applied to 2 software positions (GS 11 and 12) in March. I got referred to one about 3 weeks ago but have not heard anything since. I applied only to one location in WV.

Are most of IT jobs in cyber sys admin? I don't see many programming positions in the gov. Should apply to the cyber ones even tho I have limited experience there?

If you are in the DC, Dallas or Chicago area then let me know as I have a few questions. Regardless, all of us in this thread would like a friend who can refer folks for the next step :)

I got an email from them to do a "task" on the usa jobs site. I see the position now says "selected" but there is no link as the email said for task. I'll have to call them tomorrow.

No interview??

Which location and title if you don't mind me asking. Congratulations! The task could be your sF85 or other forms.

Near Martinsburg, WV. INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY SPECIALIST, the 2210 series. Do you know anything about that office?

There was a button for "onboard", but no "Mytasks". I sent them an email and will call the HR contact tomorrow.

Thanks.

I am actually looking to join IRS and no I do not. I know someone in MD. Your onboarding tasks will have all the necessary forms. HR will inform but if you want to look into yourself.

Congrats, cs79!

Hopefully since you were selected as an external applicant that is an indication more offers will be extended in a couple of days or weeks to ones that qualified to be referred.

What announcement were you selected for and for what grade?

Again, congrats!

Thanks for the encouragement, Johns.

I don't understand why the process is so slow. When I try to contact the HR point of contact in the announcement for the status of my application I rarely get any feedback.

Are the 1400 people they are looking to hire going to be permanent hires? Are the 1400 going to be hired in 2018 or over a course of the next couple of years that Trump is in office?

HAHAHA you DO know this is the government, right??? There's probably tens of thousands of people that have applied, regardless of their qualifications. It's likely going to take some time to get through this.
I've heard that there is a listing of all seats which were open and internal rosters have been offered as the first choice. cs79 is technically an "Internal" as he/she was already in a government role. I know for a fact that there is a method for their hiring, specifically in "waves" which include internals, military, and recent grads going first.
As I mentioned before there is probably some internal shuffling going around so it's hard to say if they're "hiring" 1400 new people or if they are "moving" people into new positions and not back filling. We would need someone from their HCO to speak to that. I've heard 1400+ but that could mean that since they are new positions, internal applicants aren't promoted, they're changing jobs. From what I've seen online and from contacts I know, this seems more like the case.

I'm also not surprised to hear they haven't written back. Again, specifically the announcement refers to a person or email address to ask questions. I assume this goes to a large center where they give quick replies back. Some replies I've received were one sentence responses with no other information. For instance "if you didn't get a grade notification, they haven't graded you yet." Thats even if I get a response.
I've also gotten inconsistencies in applications that have sent an email saying my application has been "received" however the site still reflects "qualifications under review" and I've also not heard back like the first 30 day update email said I would. That email said was an update I received back in May saying it's been 30 days and still in process, we'll continue to email you updates on the progress every 30 days. That was almost 3 months ago and I only received one update stating that they've updated one location on one of the announcements.

Of the many applications I've placed, only one has been graded. That was likely an auto grade since it was a quick turnaround. All others have been stagnant, one of those being the security role similar to what Johns has taken.
Really, if you are an external, I think it could happen, but understand you're up against military (who rightly deserve the priority) and internals. That's just how this works. Unless you're applying to a Direct Hire position, it's probably going to be closer to September that you hear anything. When I applied, I was thinking even if it weren't as "easy" as it has sounded, it would probably be August/September at the very minimum that I get any update. Heck, I've even got applications from 2010 that still reflect "application under consideration" on the IRS dashboard and I have NEVER received updates as to not being chosen for those!!!

Stay positive! There has never been a better time to be in IT.
-Good Luck and Congrats to those that have been selected!!!

It was one of the IT open for a year (03/13/2018 to 03/13/2019) positions. There were several that got posted in March. I applied the same day it opened. I am a 12 equivalent and the offer is a 12. I filled out all the forms they asked for. We will see what happens.

Thanks
