I applied to several of the announcements as well. I was referred to three of the announcements but have not received an offer.

What announcement were you selected for, GeorgiaPeach and for what grade? Do you know if you will receive training for the position?

Again, congratulations.

Thanks! Hopefully, you'll hear something soon. I was selected from 18CE2-ITB0353-2210-TR5T9 and offered a grade 7. I was a little apprehensive about taking a lower grade but my main goal was to get out of my current series and do something that I actually went to school for. Thankfully, it worked out because I'll be getting paid under the special rate table (which is based on your location) at a higher step so I'll actually be making more. I did speak with an IT manager who explained that they can pick from any of the rosters. The manager and team that I'm reporting to are all remote (not local). The training is done remotely and there will be an opportunity for telework (for my position). Another person at my location was also selected from the same announcement but will be working for a different department that is local. Hope this information helps!

Thanks for posting this update! Hope everything is going smooth!

Is there anyone on the inside that knows if rosters have been opened up to outside hires yet? I’ve got to assume if Johns received an email letting people know IRS is on a hiring “surge,” there has to be some info floating out there that would give outsiders some hope!!

I’ve inquired for a few of the positions just to see if I could get a response. Out of the 3, only 2 replied back. Probably because they were going to the general contact desk.

If anyone has any other info, I’m sure there are hundreds of lurkers that would like to know too!!
I would bet the internals will shift around and get promoted. Then outsiders will backfill or place in any outstanding seats.

I’m sure there has to be some timeline this is going to be done, regardless of the year long roster opening.

Georgia Thanks 🙏🏽 for giving us some insider recon!! It makes total sense as to why we outsiders are still sitting by the phone and refreshing email every hour!!!

I know a few people who applied based on different IT background and no one has heard back. I personally got Referred for a few vacancies. I know someone who works at IRS in MD and based on the comments it's Internal first, Contractors next, Word-of-mouth referral after that. I guess GeorgiaPeach and whoever works for IRS needs to start recommending us :)

Trust me, I tried asking my contact and he is like we don't know who the hiring manager is - not sure if its true but regardless I am running out of hope.

Edit: GeorgiaPeach, are you able to shed some insight into this special pay rate? I don't believe its listed in announcement.

Well that’s good to know I guess. I’m not an IRS employee, IRS contractor nor do I know any IRS POCs who can submit me via “word of mouth”....so I certainly won’t hold my breathe on hearing back. Oh well...

I'm sure you're not alone...
Also - one tip if you don't know anyone on the inside is to get the position title and hit LinkedIn HARD on anyone that may have a title you're interested in. At the very least you may find a hiring manager and your name will potentially pass across their eyes on a notification.
That's the least you could do to get some traction on the inside without directly knowing anyone.

Keep your head up and stay CHEESY!!!

Thanks for the input.

I'm a Java/C++/web GS12 software developer (comp sci degree) for DOD and I applied to 2 software positions (GS 11 and 12) in March. I got referred to one about 3 weeks ago but have not heard anything since. I applied only to one location in WV.

Are most of IT jobs in cyber sys admin? I don't see many programming positions in the gov. Should apply to the cyber ones even tho I have limited experience there?

If you are in the DC, Dallas or Chicago area then let me know as I have a few questions. Regardless, all of us in this thread would like a friend who can refer folks for the next step :)

I got an email from them to do a "task" on the usa jobs site. I see the position now says "selected" but there is no link as the email said for task. I'll have to call them tomorrow.

No interview??

Which location and title if you don't mind me asking. Congratulations! The task could be your sF85 or other forms.

Near Martinsburg, WV. INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY SPECIALIST, the 2210 series. Do you know anything about that office?

There was a button for "onboard", but no "Mytasks". I sent them an email and will call the HR contact tomorrow.

Thanks.

I am actually looking to join IRS and no I do not. I know someone in MD. Your onboarding tasks will have all the necessary forms. HR will inform but if you want to look into yourself.

Congrats, cs79!

Hopefully since you were selected as an external applicant that is an indication more offers will be extended in a couple of days or weeks to ones that qualified to be referred.

What announcement were you selected for and for what grade?

Again, congrats!

Thanks for the encouragement, Johns.

I don't understand why the process is so slow. When I try to contact the HR point of contact in the announcement for the status of my application I rarely get any feedback.

Are the 1400 people they are looking to hire going to be permanent hires? Are the 1400 going to be hired in 2018 or over a course of the next couple of years that Trump is in office?
