Well folks, it looks like we won't be given a two weeks' notice if we will start on 10/1. On positive note, it looks like there will not be a Government Shutdown and I believe the IRS will be funded through a continued resolution until Dec 7th.

No news here. But I did find an interesting article to share considering the Offshore Voluntary Disclosure Program officially ends next week.

No update on my end. I haven’t heard anything since I was assigned a pretraining mentor 14 days ago.

Apologize in advance if this has already been mentioned, but does anybody know if CI has any academies scheduled with FLETC as of now in the next couple of months? I thought I saw some chatter that there were a couple classes they had penciled in for October/November. But that could just be wishful thinking lol

When I spoke with my mentor his understand was that no FLETC classes had been scheduled after 9/30 due to federal budgeting uncertainty. He added that once the budget was resolved (which it appears the CR will do just that) then HQ would start reviewing classes with vacant spots and determining when people could begin filling this spots.

I’m interested if they are still planning to onboard at our field office prior to FLETC now that we’ll miss the FY 2018 deadline. I wonder if they’ll just have us wait until the next class is available now.

When I spoke with my mentor last week, he made it sound like there was a good chance I could be going to the field office before the academy. He said my future office has a lot of cases that can be worked on without having the badge and gun.

Do you know what they would bring us on as to work these cases?

Unfortunately, I do not know. In my current position with the state, my title was still "investigator", even though I didn't go through the police academy, yet, at the time. I was still able to work on cases, but had to have an armed investigator with me if I had to interview a potentially dangerous target. I'm assuming it would be the same for us with the IRS, but I'm not sure.

Finished physical and urinalysis today! Hoping to get that call by early next week with a start date! I’m hopeful for you all to get into a CITP class before the end of the year! This is the perfect time to be at FLETC for an extended period of time! Less “no see um’s“ and sand gnats.

I don’t know how many of you are coming over from prior government service, but if I could go back to day one as an 1811, this is the advice I would give myself:

Max out your TSP. From the word GO. You will have well over $1M when you retire. There are great resources out there for 1811’s with advice on investing, etc. Seek them out early!

Use your vacation time. There will likely be a time in your career where you have a use or lose balance because you are a manager and can’t take time off. Save your sick leave for the inevitable things that come up such as children, death of a parent, and unexpected illness or surgery. But if you are sick, don’t come to work! If you can telework, great; but don’t get us all sick instead!

Take chances. Accept ANY and ALL the training as you never know when you can use it or a connection you make in class. Sign up for professional organization related to 1811’s; FLEOA, WIFLE, NOBLE, NATIA, ACFE, etc. Many have local training that only costs your agency registration.

Look outside the normal Govt box for training in leadership, cyber, technology, crypto currency, etc. Many USAO offices host training. Many bigger cities have BBB task forces, document and benefits task forces, joint terrorism task forces, public corruption task forces. Find something that interests you and has a nexus to your job and ask to attend.

Network. Network. Network. The most obscure agency could hold the key to breaking your case. Or to getting the needed information in a much less painful and tedious manner. Again good luck to you all!

Hello, been lurking here throughout the process. I just got a call for the firm offer to start in Dallas on 9/30 with FLETC happening mid to late October, no finite date. I asked to delay as I have yet to move to Dallas and he said I should be able to postpone to the next pay period. Hoping to meet some new people on 10/15 and get scheduled for FLETC soon after. I will need to find temporary housing in Dallas during this waiting period befor training. Good luck and hopefully you all are getting your call soon.

Howdy PA!!! I’m going to be in the Dallas office too. Are you a lateral or a new hire?! Look forward to meeting you! Tons of places for temp lodging. Hit me up if you have questions. I’m from here and been an agent in the area for 14 years. :)

Did you get your call today? Just wondering if you were given a 2 week time period

Also in addition to the call...did they send you an email w additional details?

I got a call yesterday (9/19) around 3:30pm from HR. It seems he was confirming I was going to accept the offer and the start date with me over the phone. He asked if I could report to the POD for the 9/30 pay period and I requested for the next pay period because that's less than 2 weeks away. once the 2 week delay is approved I was told I would get an email.
