Internal Revenue Service
As a bureau of the Department of the Treasury and as one of the world's most efficient tax administrators, the IRS role is to help the large majority of compliant taxpayers with the tax law, while ensuring that the minority who are unwilling to comply pay their fair share. (Source: www.irs.gov)

There are too many managers and senior managers on Leave next week to properly execute the interviews. The CERTs didn't get to our managers until yesterday, so there isn't really enough time to coordinate the interviews for next week. I would expect calls to go out next week for schedule the first week of January. Obviously if we run into some issues with the shutdown, this could change. Managers are working over time to get this done though, so I would expect the timeline to stick.

I'm assuming no externals have received an interview or interview request yet.
I sincerely hope they don't start interviewing in the middle of busy season. I applied all over the country (places I'd like to work), but I'm not sure I can take two days off before April 15th.

Agree. I got a temp job with a CPA firm to file taxes and pretty sure they would have a fit if I tried to take time off right before April 15th.

If you apply for multiple grades, how do you get evaluated during interviews - one interview per grade, or one interview for all grades? In other words, what impact does interview have on initial pay grade. How long are interviews? 30 minutes? 1 hour? Anyone have tips on how to prepare and do well? Thanks.

Another question: There are postings for Employee Plans and Exempt Organizations (in addition to SB/BE posting). What are the general differences in day-to-day work and job expectations? Pros/Cons, anecdotal experiences and opinions are all welcome. Thanks.

You will get one interview which will cover all grades. All applicants will be asked the same questions. If selected, you will be hired at the highest grade that you qualified for. The interviews are panel interviews. You meet with two or three managers. They will ask you to tell you a little about yourself and then ask you five or six other questions. In between the questions, they will write down your answers. Interviews generally last about a half hour and I've heard of them doing phone interviews to accommodate candidates who were not local.

Very quiet in here.
Hoping the shutdown ends soon so I can escape public accounting.
Sounds dumb but I've always wanted to work for the IRS, originally in their CI division but I don't have the physical strength to pass the special agent portion haha.

As a Revenue Officer, I worked with many people who did not have business degrees. Your experience as a probation officer would be a huge plus. Edited by user Friday, January 18, 2019 7:15:23 PM(UTC)

Government will reopen for 3 weeks till Feb. 15. Let’s cross our fingers that something happens with the hiring process and maybe they try to get some interviews completed.

Good luck to everyone! I took my application out of the running. I realized being a single mother and the training wasn’t going to work. Unless I moved home to Norfolk Va because family could watch my son. So if positions open up for Norfolk I might apply again.
Also right now I just don’t feel comfortable working under this administration. I know it can happen with any administration. But this temper tantrum that he threw just to get his way is messed up. I will try again once he is out of office.
So again good luck everyone!
