Internal Revenue Service

As a bureau of the Department of the Treasury and as one of the world's most efficient tax administrators, the IRS role is to help the large majority of compliant taxpayers with the tax law, while ensuring that the minority who are unwilling to comply pay their fair share. (Source: www.irs.gov)

Depends on who’s considered essential and non-essential (or whatever phrase they’re using.) HR function might stop.

Senate is pushing a CR today through Feb 8 so hopefully that’ll buy some time.

CI employees are working. Trainees at FLETC will be shut down I am told. Not sure if that is for CITP and SAIT or just SAIT. I assume those shut down will be sent home. Once home I wonder if they will be considered excepted employees or not. For those of you new to this sort of thing, my apologies. Comes with the territory.

I have not heard anything about my 1/7 start date. After I received the firm offer I did not receive any further communication.

Assuming everyone else also heard, but 1/7s don't start until there's a budget. Here's to hoping the "months and months" comments aren't accurate

Is there a particular reason you are interested in law enforcement? You would not mind carrying a gun and arresting people?

Oh, from what I understand, and please correct me if I'm wrong, but CI is more about targeting and investigating white collar crime. Like, Enron as opposed to Escobar.

I have zero problems with arresting people in the process, and even though I personally have a more "pro gun control" attitude, I have no issues with law enforcement officers of any kind responsibly trained and equipped with firearms.

But what it really comes down to is that I strongly believe white collar crime still needs to be prosecuted, and I care a lot about everyone following the rules.

It is actually both. Many of the people you would be dealing with are involved in drugs and other criminal activities that are more than just paper crimes. I was asking more about my perception that it is somewhat dangerous rather than a negative attitude toward cops. I also have no problem with cops.

el Chapo was an OCDETF case. CI is part of OCDETF. We also investigate ID theft and false refund claims, which are often done by career criminals (these fake refunds started in the prisons). And there are still sovereign citizens out there.

I have always thought of CI as a law enforcement person who needs to have some accounting background, rather than accountant who happens to be required to carry a gun.

The training at the academy in Georgia was enough for me to never even try despite the appeal of 20 year retirement and all the other perks.

Marie, you are pretty perceptive. I've known many in CI, including management people, who think we would be better served to hire some experienced police investigators and train them in accounting, rather than mostly accountants and train them in investigations and law enforcement.
