VA (Department of Veterans Affairs)

The United States has the most comprehensive system of assistance for veterans of any nation in the world. This benefits system traces its roots back to 1636, when the Pilgrims of Plymouth Colony were at war with the Pequot Indians. The Pilgrims passed a law which stated that disabled soldiers would be supported by the colony. The establishment of the Veterans Administration came in 1930 when Congress authorized the President to "consolidate and coordinate Government activities affecting war veterans."

This forum also includes the Veterans Health Administration (VHA).

No-one has said they do. However, they only process things. You may find your supervisory chain in your civil service job are the ones who are holding things up and HR is trying to not get in the middle of a fight between you and your leadership.

I see the same thing with Reasonable Accommodation requests. The EEO office is NOT the approval office. The supervisor is (note: some agencies have removed this from the supervisor and have a separate function that does the approval/denial of accommodations. I have not worked in any of those agencies). So while I can refer people back to their supervisor or ask them if they want to file an EEO complaint, the reality is, I (and my office) are not the ones holding up their request. If you are in the bargaining unit, the best they (HR) can do is suggest you talk to your union rep.

The end of the day, the process for a complaint (for not processing your military leave) would be Grievance process then MSPB then Fed District Court.


I see what your saying , but two completely different situations. My request is upheld by U.S. Code and cant be denied. I know my service leadership is not holding things up because they also reached out to HR for support. Guess I will have to defer to union representation and go from there. Appreciate the feedback
A reasonable accommodation is also upheld by US code, and for far longer than military leave has been. That said, I told you the process for your complaint. The issue may be your supervisor has not done what they are supposed to do, and therefore HR can't do anything further. But, you need to file a grievance first, then see what is needed for the next steps based on what occurs then.
