Hey Congrats on HSI. That's my old agency. I worked with a good group of guys.

Preference sheet and SF86 submitted last night. Still have hopes to make it in this cycle. Just praying for the call.

I know I’m jumping the gun, but we’re 5 weeks out and I’m just ready to start planning!

I can understand this, I got my document package and final offer letter last night, and signed and returned it to my HR POC and received confirmation of receipt, but didn't receive any additional details about the academy itself. Did you receive your documents yet? And just a general question, is it too early to let my current company know formally yet regarding my departure since I've returned the signed offer or should I wait some more time before I notify them officially?

Coincidentally I just received my onboarding information! I personally already let my current employer know, as it’s standard in my current profession to give one month notice, but I’d say it’s whatever you feel comfortable with!

Just curious, did you receive any more info about travel/residence at the academy with your onboarding info or are you still waiting for that like you mentioned?

They did include some things to pack with the on boarding document/final offer letter, but I still feel unprepared. Plus I haven't receive any info for travel, but I'm assuming that per the letter I will have to fly.

Perhaps we should start the WhatsApp group so that we can share more info as we get it? I don't know exactly how it works (never used it before), so if you have any insight that would be helpful!

Has anyone from the August 2018 application and March/April interviews heard anything about moving forward? I contacted HR and was told that I passed and would be receiving something within the next couple of months. I know that on the forum individuals have mentioned a projected timeframe of this month (June). I wasn't for sure if anyone has heard anything yet or not. Thanks. :)

I interviewed in early April and contacted HR today to ask about the status of my application. Told that a HR Specialist would be reaching out shortly regarding the next steps of the process.

Yikes... I didn't even get ANY packing info with my final papers. Nor any indication on flying vs. driving.

I can start a WhatsApp group for DI Class #53. Anyone headed to this class who wants to join the group convo can PM me your phone number.

@GearUp For those of us going to Quantico, is it safe to say if we pass the academy and want to visit our permanent duty station before officially moving from our temporary duty location (to scout out homes/apartments) the flight cost is on us? Thank you

I would prefer to leave that question to the HR/Fiscal folks who will brief you sometime during the first week or two of the Academy. So many things have changed I don't know what the current policy is and wouldn't want to give out bad info. Sorry.

You'll have to explain to me how you learned to embrace it, because I haven't yet acquired that particular skill. :D I also applied in August 2018, interviewed in March and got the all good. They said in early May I'd receive an email with the medical appointments and it would be a couple of weeks... ... ...lol.

Hahaha Well part of it is trusting our fellow brothers and sisters on here that were just contacted and have been placing their timelines in. The other part is a masterful mix of pretending to be ok with it while also being anxious and wanting to contact HQ constantly. Lol

I also work for a bank investigating financial crimes, so it's helped teach me patience on the way to reward. Reward in my field being catching the fraudster. Reward 8n this instance will be getting the final offer.....after the few other steps we have to go through.

I went through Highway Patrol in my state here two years ago and their timeline was 9 months. Background is similar but in no way the same, but at least I know what the last 10-15 years has held for me so I can document well on my SF86 when it comes, hopefully cutting down the wait time.

I received the call/email last week. I am so terribly sad that I will not be going to the DI53 class after all the waiting, visits by investigators to my current and previous employers and medical clearance etc. and watching the board... I wasn't given any of the choices on my list. HR was kind enough to make an additional request for my #1 choice (thanks to HR). I asked via voicemail if I could be put back in the cue for the next class in case a position opens up at my #1 choice next time but the call wasn't returned. I guess in the end it was determined I was not desirable for the position and admittedly I could not leave my home location at this time. I am sooooo disappointed though. I saw everyone getting their first choice and I really believed I was next! What a let down....I feel like such an idiot. Anyway, thanks for all the forum posts, they were helpful to know how this process works and I hope that my not getting a spot opened up a position for someone that is going to make a real difference at DEA. Thanks everyone.

Sky525,

Very sorry to hear you had to turn down the offer. Please understand you were a desirable applicant/candidate for the position. DEA made you the offer. Its unfortunate that you can't leave your current home location at this time. But know that you were desirable for the position or you wouldn't have gotten the offer.

You have to understand that there are only so many vacancies and not everyone can get their 1st choice. Its just no possible. If the Miami office only has 2 openings and there are 10 applicants who list Miami as their 1st choice someone isn't going to Miami. In fact 8 will get offers for other offices they may have listed and some are going to offers for offices they didn't list. Its the luck of the draw sometimes.

Again, I'm sorry you had to decline the offer. Best wishes and good luck.
