I applied for a federal job IT Specialist (customer support) GS-12. Got referred to hiring official. Did a phone interview (1 month later). The phone interview did not match the questionnaire. The phone interview consisted of project management questions nothing to do with the questionnaire or job description. Kind of misleading. Received USAjob application status update today (another 4 weeks later) via email not referred, but gave a generic answer of does not meet time-in-grade requirements.

The job says open to federal employees- competitive as well as other stuff plus Veterans.

Does this mean I did not get chosen? even under Veterans Recruitment Act? I was previous federal employee 8 years ago and was at gs-8 level. The job applied for is GS-12. Should I have even put in my SF-50 to be considered for jobs or just use Veterans preference? I do have experience level that meets all of gs-12 level from the posting and probably more.

Any thoughts on this? Im confused.

Not out of the ordinary for the job description to not match the interview questions. Ignore the job status on USA Jobs, be it online or via email. The process is simply enough... apply, interview, job offer (or not). As to the job experience, 10s or 100s of other applicants also have the job experience as a rule.

There are two pieces here...

For this job if you are applying as a former fed or status you don’t qualify because you can’t go for 8 to 12. Your work outside give coukd qualify but thrn you have to app,y under open to all us citizens

The other part is the questions...as a 12 you likely need fo have some sort of managrment in either in project managrmrnt or lead or supervisory role. In IT that usually rntails project management.

My experience is use both of them SF 50 with prior experience and the Vet preference.
