So my situation is as follows. Currently a WS 8 step in a high ws locality pay area. I have 11 years or so to retirement. I could ride it out in the same job. I would cap out in 3 years at approximately 90k. Or I could promote to a GS-11 (leo rus locality)that caps at about 80k, and probably be stepped out. Then try to promote to a GS12 job and possibly GS 13 to end my career. Slight chance I could qualify for a gs12 directly from ws-8 however I think my chances would be slim with this route due to competing with current ws14's and gs11's.
Or...
I could promote from a WS 8 to a WS14 and then go for a gs12 or 13.

If my goal is to max out my pay for retirement in the 11 years I have left what would be the best path?

Don’t know your skills are and if it fits in the GS system.

Unsure where you are...getting to a 13 outside of largefeceral job areas can be very very difficult.

In the firld13 level tends to be the cap..there aren’t many 14 or 15s and even 13s are difficult because these positions are just below the head management.

In large fed job areas like DC and denver if you are willing to change agencies then you have a better shot to get promoted.
