I just got a call today for another medical exam. Hopefully this is a good sign? Not sure. At least it confirms I am still on their list and they are doing something.

I got called yesterday as well, to take another drug test since my last one was over a year ago. At least they’re still paying attention to the list

Looks like there's a vacancy announcement for AGS on USA Jobs. The first announcement of 2019.

I’m 16-1 applicant still waiting! Have done 3 drug tests, 2 physical exams and now going through my second background check! The waiting is desperate. Hope I finally get that call soon.

Just got the call. They only offered 3 locations in California (I don't remember any but Calexico) and 3 in Arizona (Douglas, Nogales, and San Luis) I took Douglas. I was really hoping for Texas. I report on 9/23 for 2 weeks and training is from October 8th - Jan. 28th.

I am new to this forum. I thought they were done with all academies this year. Also, do you know the work schedule or how many days a week CBP work? Is it four days on and three days off or just five days a week?

18-1

Was offered Calexico, Otay Mesa, and San Ysidro in California; Nogales and San Luis in Arizona. Academy 8 Oct - 28 Jan.

I will likely decline as I have accepted a tentative offer from another agency already.

Different ports have different policies when it comes to AWS (alternative work schedules). Some with bigger staffs are able to embrace it, and others with smaller staffs shun it. Generally, ag specialists stick to regular 5 days a week with 8 hour days, and the AWS are more often granted to officers. So there is no one answer, it will depend on your local port's policy.

Congrats everyone! Seems like 18-1’s were offered the same locations and now they’re moving to the
18-2’s.

Erg, are you able to list the other locations that you were offered?

California: Calexico, Otay Mesa, San Ysidro

Arizona: Nogales, Douglas, San Luis

Was hoping for a larger variety, but I was ready to take whatever at this point

Did anyone else apply to only ONE specific location? I am terrified that I'm going to wait another six months and then they will not offer me that location.

Also, for moms, what did you do? How did you last three months away? I will have a newborn in January. Do you take your baby with you or keep it back?

18-1 here, I applied to McAllen, TX for my geographic location preference yet I haven't received a call as of yet besides the 1 to SF location

Hrmm that’s weird. 18-2 was for the northern border and all they offered were souther border locations to you? But then they offered northern borders for the previous academy people that applied for southern borders. My head hurts. 😂

Congrats guys! Please keep us updated on how training is going. I know a lot of you have been waiting awhile.

Out of curiousity, if they called me and I rejected a post, would I be out of the running for the job? I applied to Philadelphia/NJ area. I am an 18-3. Maybe someone has more insight of how the ports they mention when they call come about. I guess it goes by need?

Do any of you know if beards are allowed?
I’ve seen pictures of Ag Specialists with some facial hair, but I haven’t seen a full beard.
Thanks

I know some have posted about this, but can anyone provide more details on the physical portion of the training (the self defense). What types of self defense tactics are taught? How strenuous is it and how would those who have been through it recommend a new hire prepare for this type of physical exertion? Conditioning? Strength and conditioning? More strength in the lower body? Upper body?
Thanks in advance for any input.

You will be taught how to throw punches and kicks, how to throw people around and how to take a safe fall, some pressure point tactics and how to safely evade a physical confrontation. You will be put into scenarios where you'll be wrestling with fellow trainees and instructors in protective gear. The training is not anywhere near as strenuous a what the officers do and you don't have to meet the same physical condition requirements. Everyone has different ideas of difficulty and there will be a whole range of physical fitness among the trainees. Personally, I thought it was rather easy, but I was a previous officer and had different expectations. For some, it will be a walk in the park where for others it might be a challenge. I wouldn't worry about it too much. I'd say cardio conditioning is more important than strength... although a strong core will help you. So much about good defensive tactics has more to do with proper technique than it does strength. But do take the training very seriously, and give the instructors 110%... that is the most import thing you can do... give it your all. And ALWAYS be in your good FI, (field interview), stance and ready to fight.
