Internal Revenue Service

As a bureau of the Department of the Treasury and as one of the world's most efficient tax administrators, the IRS role is to help the large majority of compliant taxpayers with the tax law, while ensuring that the minority who are unwilling to comply pay their fair share. (Source: www.irs.gov)

This forum will allow you to share and ask job-related questions about this bureau. This is NOT the place to ask tax questions.

Great, thanks. Any idea how long it takes from finger printing to FO? I just want to give as much time as possible to my current employer.

Honestly who knows. My fingerprints to my FO was like 2 and a half weeks. Personally I gave my employer 4 week notice before I got the fingerprints done. It was a little nerve wracking but I got my FO when I had like a week left at my job. It worked out. But some people’s prints took longer and their FO ended up being for the 8/19 date.

Ok. I think I am going to send the previously asked question to the HR Specialist and, based on the response, decide if I want to tell my employer about the TO. I would hate to put them in a bind but I would hate to tell them about the TO and not get a FO.

I was in the same pickle. My HR specialist basically said he can’t tell me either way Bc nothing is certain. Just so you know. Had to make a personal choice. If you think your employer would let you keep your job if you don’t end up with an FO (unlikely) then go ahead and tell them

Congrats to everyone that has been selected and I look forward to hopefully working with you. For those still waiting, just know that there are still offers going out to people so it is not over.

I was selected for a lower grade and step than I had hope and am having to decide if it is worth the pay cut. Is there a way to negotiate to be on a different grade or step after the TO goes out. If so, should I inquire with the HR Specialist before accepting the TO?

Is there a schedule for training? I ask because I have a baby on the way and worry that there will be mandatory training and no flexibility for when the baby is born.

Does anyone know when the starting date would be? I have a really good boss and would hate to leave really quickly.

These questions are probably more appropriate to ask the HR Specialist but I figured someone here may have some insight.

Start date 8/19/2019

This is what was posted earlier by internal sources
Training 1:9/10/2019-10/3/2019 (budget/shutdown?)
Training 2:1/5/2020-1/25/2020

Thank you. I have never had a Federal job before so I do no know how this works. My child is due Jan 20, which is right in a training period. Is there any flexibility on the dates of training? What happens if I absolutely must leave?

Talk to your supervisor and your union rep first thing after your FO. You should be able to take FMLA. Not sure how they would work around training. Maybe they would put you with the next class. But also be aware lots of things change at the IRS in September due to funding. I completely expect training may be delayed or shortened. One of the fun things about working for an underfunded agency.

Good advice. I had not considered the union rep. Thanks

Florida friend! Congrats!

Edit: Could someone post the link to the facebook group that was in the other thread?

OR

Do we want to create a new facebook group for Pathways?

Congrats!

Per comments on other threads, some were able to get a higher grade or step if their current salary was more than the TO. They stated this in their reply email and were asked to submit a copy of their pay stub to prove it. The only thing is it took weeks to get an answer. The hiring manager has to approve it.

FMLA requires an employee to be employed for 1 year with the company/organization. It may be possible for them to hold the position, but they are not obligated.
