Disability Retirement
The federal government allows employees who are unable to work to retire under a disability
retirement. It is in the best interest of both employees and the federal government for employees to remain gainfully employed in their current grade or pay level, as long as they can provide useful and efficient service without endangering themselves, others or government property. Disability retirement should be the very last option and should be used only when attempts have been made to preserve an individual's employment, and those attempts have failed.

I am guessing that since the FEHB/Life Insurance is not out of pre tax monies, that there is no tax relief for retirees?

Greetings, Honestly... best discussed with a CPA... so don't hold me to my word. But talk about things we take for granted... LOL: "However, the premiums will effectively cost you more in retirement, though, because retirees aren’t eligible for to pay FEHB premiums with pre-tax money under the “premium conversion” arrangement that applies to active employees." https://www.irs.gov/publications/p721S/ K

Right, and sometimes we get to bite the bullet. That's why all those little side hustles that seemed dumb before are looking more interesting. My sister turned my into an extreme coupon person with CVS.

Nobody was as extreme as me, effectively banned from all CVS locations nationwide for transferring and filling prescriptions just to get many $25 or $35 Gift Card(s). Federal Law was even changed so you can no longer obtain Gift Cards by using FEHB, made $1000 a year for a few years in free CVS Crap

CVS always sends me coupons when I don't need items. I am not in the habit of storing inventory for others, however toilet paper and paper towels are nice to have. Things have been better since I switched to Bounty, it really is more absorbent. BTW, that Snuggle bear is a really good actor.

I don't believe that FEGLI life insurance premiums were ever pre-tax, while working. FEHB definitely could have been. It is not in retirement. |
