I will be retiring next year at my FRA 66, born in 1954. My questions are about my wife's options with social security if I were deceased prior to her being at her FRA? My wife is 6 years younger than I am and she will be collecting from her own social security earnings record unless I am deceased.

1) If my wife is not collecting SSI and I die can she collect from her earnings record until she is at her FRA, 67, then switch to collecting from my earnings record?

2) If my wife is collecting SSI from her earnings record and I die can she continue to collect from her earnings record until she is at her FRA, 67, then switch to collecting from my earnings record?

3) Where can I find this information online?

The answer to your first two questions is yes. The answer to your third question is that you need to go to the Social Security Web site at www.socialsecurity.gov and under “search” put the words “spousal survivor benefits”. Some relevant Social Security Administration publications should pop up.
