Do any new employees know when the health insurance becomes effective after you EOD? Currently doing some planning and would like to know, if possible, how this has worked out for recent new hires.

When I got the question
While the location in this announcement is "Location Negotiable," the following duty locations are most likely to have CBP Agriculture Specialist vacancies at the time of your final offer...…….
I picked whatever was closer to my city, but is there some kind of hope that even though my preferred location wasn't in that list they can still offer it to me? Has this happened to someone? or do they strictly go off that list?
My husband is a CBPO in our town, so moving, its almost impossible since our family is here, we own a home here and we also have a baby here :/ I wouldn't want to defer honestly...

Lunabaloo1112,
When I applied, it was the same thing. There were many of the cities listed that they said were going to be, but when I got my offer mine wasn't on the list(many of the cities that were in the job announcement were offered). If you are on any border, I am sure you will be fine. They also offered me a lot of cities that were not on my announcement. Hope this helps.

Thanks I got the call like a month and a half ago, I think, and they offered me 6 locations between Cali and AZ. The final email I got yesterday had my assigned location matching the one I accepted over the phone call earlier this summer

Applied jul 3, 2019. So far it’s been moving quick and my nor said gs-7. Finished eqip and fingerprints last week. the medical I did two weeks ago and today it showed up as complete on the app. I have the vbt Thursday morning. I’m very surprised at how fast it’s moving. I had applied 4 years ago and gotten in but since I never got a location in Texas I didn’t take it. Now I’m regretting it, so that’s why I’m reapplying. Has anyone picked San Francisco or San Ysidro or Otey Mesa? Particularly interested in talking to anyone who has chosen SF. Is it at the airport or ports or both? Any details on why they're promoting SF? I'm guessing it's bc they are short staffed and expensive to live nearby by but does anyone have any other ideas or input? TIA! Passed the vbt got the results in a day. Got an email this afternoon that they sent my eqip to OPM for the background investigation. Anyone know how long it took to get started on the BI?

Anyone know how long it took to get started on the BI? It took me about 5 months between the VBT and the BI to start. I am just editing to elaborate. I applied August 2018, 18-3. Completed my E-quip in and basic medical review in October, VBT in November - got the results the very next day, they sent me some paperwork to elaborate on a few health concerns in January and I got all that stuff done in February, drug test in Feb, Met with the BI in late March, I passed the Medical and that took about 8 weeks, so it was about May I believe when I found that out. They requested my transcripts in May or June and I received the phone call last week on Monday! It's been pretty quick :) It sounds like yours could be moving even quicker, though it's hard to tell. I just wanted to give a little timeline of my experience. Hope that helps someone! Edited by user Thursday, August 29, 2019 9:07:18 AM(UTC)

There is about to be a very large surge in hiring new Ag Specialists across the agency, and I would think that should increase the prospects of being offered positions in smaller places like St. Louis much more likely. So I wouldn't give up hope just yet.
I am just wondering why do you suspect there is going to be a hiring surge for ag specialist. I’m kinda curious because I just started my BI. So the process is going really fast.

On July 12th, Bill S.2107 (Protecting America’s Food and Agriculture Act of 2019), was introduced to the Senate to add an additional 240 CBPASs. While it has not yet been passed, (to my knowledge), it is likely to be. This is in addition to the agency already pushing 2 extra classes of trainees through the academy compared to just a year ago.

I have been following this Thread for quite a few months now, but have just joined. I am a 18-3 Applicant. I emailed CBP last week and got word that I am on the list to be called, but that they do not have a time frame on when that will be. The anticipation sucks, but the wait I'm sure will be worth it. I'm currently working seasonally with an Ohio Department of Natural Resources Division and not having a permanent job is a little stressful. I'm looking forward to being an Agriculture Specialist. Has any other 18-3 applicants received a call yet? I believe I have seen at least one that has by following the thread. Thanks Edited by user Monday, September 16, 2019 8:09:38 AM(UTC)

Thanks I am an 18-3 and received a call about a month ago. I have a feeling you'll be called soon.

Did you have to do a polygraph? Also when you emailed them how long did it take for them to respond?

I have not had to take a Polygraph? I'm assuming I wont since I am already on the call list. It took them two days to email me back. I had emailed them prior to this time and I received a reply back a few hours after.
