DHS

The Department of Homeland Security has a vital mission: to secure the nation from the many threats we face. This requires the dedication of more than 230,000 employees in jobs that range from aviation and border security to emergency response, from cybersecurity analyst to chemical facility inspector. [Their] duties are wide-ranging, but [their] goal is clear: keeping America safe. (source: www.dhs.gov)

I got TO from the open to public announcement from back in April. I got TO in mid-July.

How far are you in the process since you got your TO in mid july

I did my drug test and just got an email to start background check.

7/30 TO San Francisco without interview
8/1 Acceptance Acknowledgement email received
8/6 drug test phone call and email

Waiting since. Looks like a 2.5 week wait from the drug test for the background investigation to start from previous posts?

After a drug test they contacted me 2,5 weeks later to start background check. I did email them before and was informed that there is currently a backlog.

Also, Houston Asylum office, anyone who works there, could you please tell me what kind of attire would be expected? Business or business casual is fine?

For those who are waiting things out in different stages of the hiring process, be aware that the asylum program is trying to move heaven and earth to bring 450 new officers on and have them trained by the end of of 2nd Quarter 2020. That would be before the end of March of 2020. Don't know how much pressure they can put on OPM to get the background investigations done quickly, but they will do what they can. Personally I don't thing there is a chance in hell they will meet their goal.
thanks 1 user thanked majun for this useful post.

Shouldn't my TS clearance make the secret clearance background go faster

I submitted references, a writing sample, and was interviewed in August for the Asylum Officer position for Tustin, California.

Anyone else going through that office's application and selection process?

Any information on the general process and the possibility of a "CR", or continuing resolution impacting the hiring would be great.

Thank you.

Has anyone else applied for the Asylum Officer opening in San Francisco? I was asked to submit a writing sample and submit references a few weeks ago. I thought it was odd they wanted references before an interview. My current supervisor refused to give a reference to SF, so I only had 2/3 respond. We're about to pass the 3 week mark, so I'm assuming I'm out of the running for that one.

I also got referred on 8/22 for a Refugee Officer in Washington D.C. And I have a few ISOs outstanding. Hopefully, one of those works out (with my luck, probably not).
