I just returned from Unit 3 on Friday. Per one of the instructors, there will be another wave of hiring. I believe it will be in December.
Don't let yesterday take up too much of today.

The announcement may come in December. But they won’t be hired in December.

I was just put on the list to go to OJI training in Jan.

Yes they will. They're using the same announcement. There's an EOD on 12/9.

Thanks to all who have contributed to this post. I’ve been following along for about a month. My experience:

Applied to RO position in late July through recent graduate pathway. Only city applied to was Nashville. Announcement closed 1 Aug 2019. I have a masters in comms, attained may 2018. I have 10 point vet preference. I am a current federal employee: OA GS 6 Step 2. Heard nothing back until 10 October. Interviewed by phone 14 October. Received an email 18 October from career connector to accept TO and fill out onboarding. Filled everything out and was told to email HR rep to set up fingerprinting. That was last Friday. Have heard nothing back since. Have emailed HR twice. Not too worried. Seems pretty typical for govt hiring. Should I hold off on emailing HR anymore until I hear about fingerprinting?

I asked the lady who interviewed me about a timeline. She said the start date would probably be the first week of December, if I was chosen. She indicated that the travel portion of training would be broken up. I am not sure if the first travel date is in December or if that will be the report date. She did not seem to know exactly which city we’d travel to.

I think I’m going to enjoy the RO job. I’ve also been chosen as a paralegal but can’t seem to find any info about it. Have any of you done the paralegal job or know anyone who has? How is it?

Question for those more informed than I:

When did Journeyman for RO get bumped up from GS9 to GS 11?

What was it like being a Grade 9 RO (how were the cases etc)

Any chance that RO journeyman ever becomes GS 12?

The journeyman increased sometime in 2017.

Looking back the cases were generally quick and easy but also hard because your OJI was gone.

I think one day the journeyman will increase again but not for many years.

Years ago much of the grunt work in the government was done by Grade 9 employees. Revenue Officers, Border Patrol Agents, U.S. Marshals, Immigration Inspectors, Customs Inspectors were journeyman 9s. Most Revenue Agents and Special Agents were GS-11. To get a higher grade, employees had to compete, or wait for someone to retire.

The journey level was raised in December 2016..

There is no grade 9 work or grade 7 work. Unless it’s above journey level its grade 11 work.

I recommend you form good relationships with people in your training year. You’ll need them in your second year.

Basically what my grandfather told me applies in you’re training year. ‘Never step on the toes of someone whose ass you might have to kiss later’

I doubt the journey level will increase to 12 before I retire.

Once there is a budget, they will post the job announcement. Not much can be done for new external hiring with CR's.

How do you like the job? Can you see yourself making it a career?

I retired a few years back. Things have probably changed quite a bit.

I went to OJI Training first week of December. Supposedly there are suppose to be wave 5 and 6 in april.

And the director of field collection sent an email last week anticipating the budget for more new hires for FY2020

I was hired in wave 2. I'll be leaving for Unit 3 training in January.

Honesty, the job is great. I spent 9 plus years answering the phones for the service. Compared to that this job is a dream. Except for one of my fellow new hires who's a pain in the ass.

A few helpful tips. Schedule in ics days to work on new cases and print out the ics summary screen and create your folder every monday. Check your statutes every Monday: let your manager and OJI of you have any within 12 months. Check your trust funds every Monday.

I'm finding being flexible with deadlines helps me more than them: but I always have two deadlines so I can issue my L3164 unless they dont meet the 2246 deadline.

But like I said, the jobs awesome. I dont ever dread Monday's, but there is never enough time in the day on busy days.

The job definitely gives you a lot of independence. It's not for everyone, but I definitely think I can make it a career. My GM told our group it really takes 5 years to be a seasoned RO. What I find interesting about the job though is how much say the GM has on you versus if you work the phones. One of my coworkers said that NQRS is a much bigger deal on the phones than this job. Not sure if that is a good thing or bad thing, but it seems it's a good thing if there is less evaluations on you. During someone's probationary year though, they can let you go very easily though, so it's important to work hard, manage your time wisely, and always observe taxpayer's rights are being followed. Also, make sure to follow the IRM and the proper taxpayer contact protocol.

Glad you are enjoying it. I definitely agree there isn't enough hours in the day to finish everything you need. During the first year, comp time isn't a thing, so you just leave work at your cubicle, and get to it the next day you are in. I also know that different GM's like different things so it is important to know what your GM wants. They are the one's doing the EQRS and as you said, scheduling is important because this job is all about judgement and time management.
