This is standard procedure for federal agencies with polygraph programs, including NSA. In general, polygraph operators won't tell you that you passed. They'll leave you uncertain about the outcome. Actually, one does really pass or fail a polygraph. If you fail, you get blackballed. In polygraph screening, the failing score is called "SR" for "significant reaction." In criminal investigations, it's called "DI" for "deception indicated." But whatever buzzword the federal polygraph community chooses to attach to it, it's still tantamount to "failing." |

Update to my processing timeline for IADP:
10/2017 - Applied 10/2018 - Operational Interview 11/2018 - CJO 11/2018 - e-QIP 05/2019 - Met with background investigator 05/2019 - References contacted by background investigator 07/2019 - Psych & Poly #1 (Inconclusive) 07/2019 - Poly #2 (Pass) 10/2019 - FJO 01/2020 - EOD
I made it through! Planning on moving just in time for Christmas so I can be with my family for the holidays. It does look like I increased the average times for several of the segments of the process since it has been almost exactly 2 years since I applied to the NSA.
For background, I applied while still in college and have international travel to Canada, Mexico, a US ally (1 month), and a nation critical of the US (3 days). Can't be more specific on the last two without doxxing myself, but I made sure to keep a small journal of everywhere I went and everyone I had come into contact with that I was able to share with the investigator. I have no continuing contact with any foreign nationals and only limited use of marijuana 2+ years ago.
I'll stick around as I finish out my current job, so feel free to ask questions and I'll try to answer the best that I can!

I'm not going for a development program, but another position. I check in monthly, and am just trying to be patient. I really do enjoy seeing everyone succeed at their dreams though and get their FJO's! It's almost as exciting for me as my own processing. Definitely rooting you guys on.

It's been a while since I applied, so I don't remember exactly when.
Here's my timeline:
12/2018 Phone interview for Software Engineer position 1/2019 Received notification from another recruiter regarding the Cyber Capabilities Specialist position 2/2019 Online interview for second position 2/2019 Phone calls from both recruiters regarding CJO 2/2019 Transcript sent 3/2/2019 Signed documents to give NSA permission to obtain info 3/6/2019 Written CJO for both positions 3/8/2019 Submitted SF-86 3/11/2019 Request to revise SF-86 3/11/2019 Revised and sent SF-86
I haven't heard anything from them since then. Is it typical to wait for this long? I'm worried that my hospitalizations during college (first time was voluntary, second time it was not; college was a rough time) may hinder my chances.

Investigators are probably talking to all of those college folks most likely. Also, depends on the area you live in. In may have a heavy case load.

I recently got an email come in from recruitment office saying I’m in the suitability process so they give me any timeline. Haven’t even scheduled poly/psych. I’m young but have a lot of foreign travel in the past 5 years so I sure that’s holding me up a little bit.

In month 4 after poly so I feel like it’ll be soon I hear something cause I’m seen some people average 5 months after poly to hear something.

Since applying: 427 days Since Interview: 360 days Since CJO: 335 days Since SF86 submission: 319 days Just refreshing my timeline. Although my poly was 6 months ago, my subject interview was only 3 months ago. So if the 4 to 6 month range given by recruiters applies, I expect to hear something December - February. I check in about once a month. Other than a new recruiter, its been quiet. Keeping my fingers crossed.
