Nah that was still one of the dumbest things I've ever heard and you're an idiot. To add some context, I've told a few people in the intelligence community about that particular comment because it was so hilarious, and they all said it was idiotic bull***** coming from someone who doesn't know what they're talking about and wants to sound like a hardass.

Anyways, as for the rest of your incoherent, self righteous (and wrong) ramblings, this is my response: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LQCU36pkH7c

Poplou,

You wrote to Varianz, among other things:

Even if you truly believe this is not true, it still is likely there. Believe me, no one standing before a federal judge on espionage charges ever thought that's where they would be standing at the time they were hired. I also salute and appreciate the work of this polygraph specialist. He doesn't have an easy job. He is one of many gatekeepers to the security of our nation, and it isn't easy having to close the gate on people. Nevertheless, these people stop many would-be Edward Snowdens from ending up in our ranks, and anyone who loves our country and understands how important that role is for national security should be thankful we have people willing and able to perform polygraph work.

The polygraph measures breathing, palmar sweating, and readings from a blood pressure cuff. None of these measures are systematically correlated with lying. Polygraphy is a thoroughly discredited pseudoscience. Some twenty years ago, the FBI's own senior scientific expert on polygraphy testified to Congress that "It is completely without any theoretical foundation and has absolutely no validity."

The National Academy of Sciences conducted a thorough review of the scientific evidence on polygraphs and concluded that "its accuracy in distinguishing actual or potential security violators from innocent test takers is insufficient to justify reliance on its use in employee security screening in federal agencies."

Varianz states that he has "Never done drugs. Never sold them. Nothing." Nonetheless, his polygraph operator accused him of lying about drug use.

On the basis of what evidence do you conclude that Varianz's polygraph operator "saw something" in him that maybe he didn't even see himself?

Poplou,

Applying Occam's razor, I think the more likely explanation of why Varianz failed the polygraph is simply that an invalid "test" produced an inaccurate outcome.

Thanks man, appreciate it. It just sucks that this is what did me in. I'd totally understand if I was deemed not competitive, or didn't pass P1 or P2. That's on me, I need to improve. But failing the polygraph because I was mistakenly accused of lying because of some squigly lines on a pseudoscience voodo machine...yeah that hurts.

Idk. My backup was law school, I have some great options there so that's where I think I'll head. Maybe in three or four years they'll change the policy, or at least allow appeals. I'll probably lurk here because I'm still invested in ya'lls outcomes.

(And you DO know once you default on federal student loans, you are essentially disqualified for federal employment.... right?)

Go read about the fate of lawyers these days with six figure debt.... it’s not pretty. Unless you graduate from a T14 school in the top 10%, you’re basically looking at unemployment or legal work with an average salary of 40k.

Here’s an idea. Instead of hating on STEM majors, how about going to your in state university, declaring a major in computer science, graduate in two years as a post-bac, and be virtually guaranteed to work for any federal agency you want? (Except for the bureau obviously, since you’re now effectively barred for life).

The lazy/easy way out isn’t going to get you the results you want in life. Put in the work and effort, and you’ll get the desired outcome you want. Don’t ruin your life going into massive student loan debt just because the bureau rejected you. It’s completely irrational and self destructive.

You stupid *****ing moron lol. You have no idea what you're talking about.

FYI for anyone considering law school, the market has seriously improved. Yes, six figures debt isn't good. And lots of schools do result in bad career outcomes. But T14 is basically an automatic path to a 200k starting salary if you don't flunk out. Just be careful to pick a good school and do well on your LSAT so you get a scholarship. Here's the data to show he's an idiot and if people are thinking about law school: https://www.lstreports.com/

Also, just for your information. I'm a statistical analyst at a consulting company, so lmao at your math joke. Just lmao. Oh, and I got a 179 on my LSAT (wanna see my score report?) and already have a full ride to a T6. Law school was my "backup" into a career I'm just more interested in.

But yeah, keep talking out your ass.

Now I see why you can’t pass a polygraph.....

So, let me get this straight. You got a near perfect score on the LSAT (putting you in the top 1% of law applicants nationwide), full ride to a T6, and basically would be set for life looking at making 250-500k/year at big law day one out of law school....

But you were going to take a hard pass on all that to sit in a cube and write intel reports no one would read or care about (until you were ten years in the job and actually were put on a real detail anyone cared about) for 40k/year starting?

Sure, I believe that. Just as much as I believe the poly was wrong about your answers concerning past drug activity.

Also, “statistical analyst” is a BS job title that sounds like it’s STEM but anyone who has been in corporate America knows isn’t. It’s a job typical of your run of the mill average business majors. Nice try to misrepresent though... did you do that at the poly?

https://imgur.com/a/QEnhLnO there you guy.

Yeah I want to work for the FBI so I'd pick that over law school, not sure what's hard to understand about that. How many people here have dreamed about working for the FBI since they were kids? I was one of them.

Also lmao. Ok dude. Whatever you want to convince yourself of to gatekeep your precious STEM. I was poli-sci but math and stats aren't that hard to learn, just take a few classes. Do you make this many assumptions in your job? Because if so holy *****. I figured you were terrible, but honestly the more you write the more convinced I am that you represent the very worst in law enforcement: sanctimonious, self righteous pricks convinced of their own perfection.

Are these two mortal enemies or something? I do not understand what's going on here. Anyone in BI hear any updates about being adjudicated recently? Thanks! Maybe we can stop airing our personal beefs on here and get back to what this thread is about? Cool?

So, again, the FBI clearly did you a favor. You, quite frankly, were going to make an idiotic choice. Yes, you need to goto law school with that score. Harvard and Yale are real possibilities for you.

So, play your cards right, and you are looking at a 500k/year salary being a bad year for you in the future. You are also looking at one day joining the ranks of the most elite lawyers in the nation. You’ll look back at this and see intel analysts as complete losers in comparison.

Just some future advice though.... consider the time and place before you speak. People make irrational choices all the time in life. People take out an 80k auto loan while making a 40k salary. People choose to walk down a dark alley alone at 1am.

The thing is, when you have two options on the table.... one leading to a 500k/year career, the other starting at 40k/year, and you choose the 40k option... that’s possible. Sure. It’s just not the choice 99% of people would make and thus unbelievable.

When you are going through a security vetting process, and unbelievable stories are being sought out to use against you, it’s best not to volunteer them.

(P.S. drugs are not nearly as frowned upon at Harvard Law as they are at the bureau....)

Sounds like you really care about the money. Isn't that a red flag?

Another update:

I drove the several hours to my FO last week to take care of the fingerprinting that was inadvertently missed as a result of my cross-country move. I was advised by the employee doing my prints that I was already in background, but at that point I hadn't heard from any of my SF-86 references about being contacted, and I hadn't heard from an investigator (when I asked about this they say it is possible that they just hadn't started contacting people yet, or perhaps they were waiting on prints to be done first). This morning I received a phone call from an investigator in my previous locale informing me that my prior employer needs a specific form signed by me before they will release my information. So - I guess it is safe to say that my BI is finally underway.

I expect my BI to be a long process since I am a military spouse and have moved quite a bit. Additionally, a handful of my references are military or have family in the military, which means they are all over the country. I would not expect to get into a class until at least summer of next year. Nevertheless, I am happy to have everything else behind me!

Also - Congrats on the FO, George! I hope you will be able to chime in for those of us following behind you- especially on the Life at Quantico thread.

Wondering if anyone knows the answer or feels comfortable answering this. Does Q typically start on the same date for each class? For instance, is it always the first Monday, or the middle or even the end of the month? Or does it change depending on which month you get in? I'm just curious and trying to plan life at least a little bit while waiting for my background to clear. Thanks!

Your employment starts on Sunday. You attend ONE (onboard new employee) training for three days, then starts academy on Thursday.

Everyone starts the same, classes every 3-4 months (pending shutdowns, cancelled classes). IA's graduate far earlier than the SA's they are embedded with.

You might get a week notice to get to Quantico, you might get a month notice.

My coordinator told me the next one after January is March. Not sure about the following months.

I would love to get into the March class but I doubt I get through that fast. I’m trying to gauge when I could be going and if it would coincide with the new school year.
