Internal Revenue Service
As a bureau of the Department of the Treasury and as one of the world's most efficient tax administrators, the IRS role is to help the large majority of compliant taxpayers with the tax law, while ensuring that the minority who are unwilling to comply pay their fair share. (Source: www.irs.gov)
This forum will allow you to share and ask job-related questions about this bureau. This is NOT the place to ask tax questions.

How common is FLETC failure in general? If you're self-aware enough to worry about failing at FLETC then you're probably going to not fail. From what I've read, the biggest reason for dismissal is getting drunk and showing your a** and embarrassing everyone. Umm no it’s not Oh, ok! It was my understanding that aside from the Secret Service, who have to abide by some fairly stringent physical standards, it's a pretty straightforward program without much attrition. CITP is easy. SAIT sucks and is mostly sitting in a classroom.
Most people dropped in CITP are dropped for being drunk idiots on the weekend. Most people dropped from SAIT are classroom related and not booze related.

Is there anything we should study that will make SAIT not so bad? Particularly for those of us who are not CPAs?

How common is FLETC failure in general? FLETC in general is like the military. Crawl, walk, run. You'll disassemble a pistol first. Then spend classes on the virtual range getting a feel for drawing and presenting. Every class is structured. CITP and SAIT have two different qualifications. IRS-CI's qual is harder than CITP. These questions of "how much does someone fail XYZ" are just going to stress you out. You will have practiced many times over before the real qualification (and generally, before any sort of graded exercise). You'll *KNOW* if you need to work on something in particular well in advance of the graded qualification, whether you know you need work or an instructor points it out to you. It's hard to say how common failure is. It's a bunch of people from all walks of life getting thrown into the deep end of a new environment. I thought CITP was straight-forward and easy, but there were some in my class who struggled academically. Yet we lost no one in my CITP class. SAIT is challenging academically. How to make SAIT not so bad? Be organized, plan ahead. They'll teach you what you need to know. I think studying anything now ahead of time will just confuse you.

Currently, my MD determined I can perform all duties and gave me a clean bill of health, but the medical review officer requires more support. Anyone else have this issue?

Anyone else have this issue? You went to your own MD? What does the medical review officer require? When I had my medical done, I was asked to get a separate eye exam later because I had LASIK a few years ago. Wasn't much of an issue.

Can anyone detail out the physical requirements of IRS-CI CITP? What's a day like? Are they gonna run our ass into the ground? Burpees, pushups, pull-ups, sit-ups, run, repeat? Or is it way more cake than that?
Thank you kindly!

Anyone else have this issue? Your MD signed off on your follow up and now the medical review officer wants proof? I just received my medical results and I have a few follow ups to take care of.

For any applicant scrubbing the internet for information - I have received a definitive answer for those dealing with the color-vision requirements of the IRS-CI Special Agent position. Context: I applied for the SA position in Feb/Mar 2019. Over the past year, I reached out to IRS HR, Comprehensive Health Services (CHS), and my new POD to gather specific information regarding the color-vision requirements and tests. No party could give a precise and definitive answer. Now that I have completed the medical, I can provide clarity. These answers were obtained directly from a Medical Review Officer (MRO) with CHS:
1. Question: Whether color corrective contacts or lenses are permitted to be worn for the 14-plate Ishahara test? Answer: MRO states definitively - NO. Ishihara Testing completed with corrective lenses are not allowed and will not be considered in any form. 2. Question:Since color deficiency runs on a spectrum from slight to severe - is there a demarcation that divides what level of deficiency qualifies and what doesn't? Answer: IRS allows for mild color deficiency and not moderate or severe. 3. Question: Are waivers granted for this qualification? Answer: If needed, applicant would contact IRS directly to inquire about the waiver policy

Anyone here know how they calculate the 50 mile residence to POD requirement? Do I just drop a pin at the POD location and draw a 50 mile circle around it? Thanks!

I had a couple things they wanted too (ironically I didn't get the confirmation email that they received it but I called the number and one of the people there confirmed they received it & sent it to the MRO). Next up is the audit and then the BI...anyone know how long it is from the medical review for that? Edited by user Tuesday, March 3, 2020 9:13:56 AM(UTC)

I have a friend that hasn't gone through medical yet, but currently going through the audit. I am finishing up follow ups and received a request to send in school transcripts. Does anyone know if there's a a general flow to the various steps?
