Also, the instructors really want you to do well and make sure that you understand the material. I really have never meet another group of instructors that have cared this much.

Is a computer/tablet needed for anything academic at the academy? Or will people have them for entertainment purposes only?

How fast is the WiFi?

You are issued a tablet, the only thing it does is academic. It contains your reading material, and some study aides. You can bring your own tablet/computer for entertainment. Wifi, there is a provider called Boingo, it costs about $40 a month for their service. Boingo allows up to three devices for that $40 to be connected, so you can always split the cost with others too. There is a free FBI wifi, but it's a bit slow and not the best for streaming.

Congratulations!

First week thoughts...

Food is really good. Bring a collapsible hamper. Have a notebook and pens for notes. If you get cold, bring an extra blanket. Bring a small fan if you need white noise. Bring a spill proof water bottle for sure. Lean on senior trainees for help, they know what’s going on and where to go. Research your FO list before you arrive. Do not deviate from the path if you are driving to Q...no side trips. Bring snacks if you need to munch.

Great post, thanks! I am hoping to stay on a similar timeline. Looking forward to seeing more posts about Quantico, if you have time.

More tidbits...

Health insurance doesn’t kick in day one. So if you have a family and need coverage, plan accordingly. Do not speed on base. Look at the insurance stuff before you get here-life, health, dental etc. Get in the habit of smart OPSEC, people don’t need to know where you work or where you’re going. The agents/analysts (your teachers) are obviously great resources, ask them questions about the job. Make sure you have business attire and business casual attire with you.

Anybody currently at Quantico hear any rumors/rumblings about how COVID-19 might affect current and upcoming BFTC classes?

I'd be interested to know that as well. I'm sure there will be some sort of mandate that affects training, especially for upcoming classes.

I emailed asking if there were any possibilities to upcoming scheduled training classes being postponed and was told that applicants will be notified once more detailed info gets gathered. I received my official invite for the 5/10 class (IA) so in the meantime I am just going to proceed like normal to prepare myself with the anticipation that the 5/10 class will still happen.

Sounds like a good idea. Just keep prepared to leave for a class unless told otherwise. In the meantime, stay busy and safe!

On a side note, have there been any confirmed cases at Quantico?

I know NATs and NIATs go to class together. I know they're issued the same clothing for class. Does that uniformity extend to facial grooming? On page 1, it's stated that NATs must be clean-shaven. Must NIATs also he clean-shaven?

Every trainee must be clean shaven. However, as a NIAT you can probably get away with shaving every 2-3 days as opposed to a NAT where you can get away with shaving only every other day.

It seems like every class has a different experience then. We had two male NIATs in our section who routinely had 5 o’clock shadows and no one seem to care. Had one NAT who tried it and we all paid for it at DT.

I have a permanent 5 o'clock shadow. No way I'd be able to get by without shaving for 2-3 days if the policy is to be clean-shaven.

I've had a small beard for about 3 years. Any time I clean shave I have red blotches on my face for a while. Was just trying to prepare if I need to go clean a few weeks before Q or you if I was allowed to keep it. Of course, this is all dependant on actually getting an invite. Thanks for the responses!

Curious, how many miles per week do you all run at Q? I average about 8+ miles (4 miles, 3 miles, 1.5 miles) per week and I was wondering if this was good enough.

You don’t have to worry about running at Q. It’s more fruit style training and all about endurance. You will do a point run which was probably 3 miles, directors run about the same and yellow brick road at the end about 5-6 miles but you don’t run the whole thing.

You will be fine.

I assume that the roommate arrangements are same-sex? Suppose there are an odd amount of ladies - do they get their own room?

Having a roommate is a good thing in an academy environment in my opinion. You keep each other in check and help each other. It really makes the academy easier (if you have the right roommate) Plus the experience becomes more college like fun.
