I've appreciated these posts a lot while I was going through the hiring process, so I'm happy to share mine, especially since my referral was initially denied, and I had to appeal!

After much perseverance and patience I can finally post my timeline...

Applied: 8/12/2019

Referred: 10/17/2019

Interviewed: 10/24/2019

Tentative offer: 06/23/2020

E-QIP request: 7/3/2020

EOD: 8/31/2020

As you can see anything is possible when it comes to getting hired for the federal government. I thought I was long removed from consideration for my position and then out of nowhere I get a tentative offer of employment. I like many of you lost hope for a long time, but if your application status in usajobs still says received there is still hope. Sometimes they hire someone instead of you and for one reason or another it doesn't work out for that person then they go down the list of other candidates. Good luck to all of you!

This timeline is a little skewed because I already have the required clearance for the position, but here's the final timeline for my promotion:

Applied 7/3/20
Closed 7/10/20
Referred 7/14/20
Interviewed 8/27/20
TJO 9/21/20 (Countered for salary increase to 13/3 equivalent and relocation incentive - got both)
Revised offer 09/22/20
Final Offer 10/20/20
EOD 11/9/20

Finally can post my timeline here, as it has been a journey.

Opportunity: Analyst position, State Department, GS-12 located in D.C., promotion potential to GS-13
My background: New to government service, non-vet, have never held a clearance, coming from 12+ years in private sector (not including experience from HS & college)

- Opened: 5/20/20
- Applied: 5/22/20
- Closed: 6/3/2020
- Referred: 6/8/2020
- Interview Scheduling Email: 6/17/2020
- Interview: 6/26/2020
- References contacted: 7/1/20 through 7/10/20
- TO from HR: 7/28/20
- eQIP submitted: 8/1/20
- Full clearance granted: 11/2/20
- FO from HR: 11/10/20
- EOD: 1/4/21

Note that I was able to obtain step 10 as my incoming step, via a SQM + paystubs from my current job. The role itself is fairly specialized and aligns well with my experience and skillset, so least to say I am excited to serve, and be involved with a mission that aligns both personally & professionally.

Here's some of my application stats from my journey (approximately two years through September 2020):

- Applied: 353
- Not referred: 201
- Received (no update): 72
- Canceled: 30
- "Reviewed" (no update): 4
- Referred (no update): 22
- Referred (not selected e.g. direct hire): 3
- Referred (interviewed, not selected): 15
- Referred (interviewed, selected, then canceled): 2
- Referred (interviewed, selected, turned down): 3
- Referred (interviewed, selected, accepted): 1

I come from a multi-disciplinary background in social sciences (qualitative/quantitative research), public affairs/communications science, project management, product development and other skills. So I was applying across various job groups (0100, 0300, 1000, 1100).

I'm new to the government hiring process. It seems like my hiring process is taking a long time. There are a ton of things I would do over if I had only known. I am glad that I am (hopefully) in the final stretch.

Interview: 9/3/20

TJO : 9/11/20

TJO Rev 1: 12/22/20

EQIP Completed: 2/2/20

Fingerprints: 2/8/20
