VA (Department of Veterans Affairs)

The United States has the most comprehensive system of assistance for veterans of any nation in the world. This benefits system traces its roots back to 1636, when the Pilgrims of Plymouth Colony were at war with the Pequot Indians. The Pilgrims passed a law which stated that disabled soldiers would be supported by the colony. The establishment of the Veterans Administration came in 1930 when Congress authorized the President to "consolidate and coordinate Government activities affecting war veterans."

This forum also includes the Veterans Health Administration (VHA).

Perhaps you are working for the VA or interested in working for the VA. Here is a forum to share your experience with the VA.

I'm interested in applying for a job with the VA that is open to all merit promotion candidates, including those external to the agency. However, the assessment questionnaire includes numerous statements requiring significant prior work experience with the VA and with the specific office that is hiring for the position. Does this mean the office is looking for an internal candidate and for some reason can't technically limit their candidate pool as such, so they make the assessment impossible for anyone who isn't internal? One option is, of course, to self-assess with a very broad interpretation of the VA references that assumes they could mean similar offices in other agencies or entities, but that's probably not honest or correct -- or is it?

Thanks for sharing any thoughts y'all may have.
