I retired in 2012, with 39 years....35 working 24/7/365, rotating thru all 3 shifts in a 5 week period.
When we moved to a 10 hr workday, I still did that, but like you noticed, and as stated above by the previous poster....
My shift from 8a-6p had no shift diff.
2p - Mid contained 6 hrs of 10%
10p - 8a had 8 hrs of shift diff.
When I worked O/T from day shifts (8a - 6p) I sometimes worked til 8, 9 or 10 pm, and those hours from 6p - ??? were overtime with no shift diff.
Sundays were 25% from 6a - 6p, and 10% additional from 6p - mid sunday night, as well as mid to 6a Sunday morning.
So, from Sunday 2p - mid, I received 25% from 2-6p, and 35% from 6p-mid Sunday night.
Confusing at first, but understandable once you know the rulz.
