Update:
Received an email today saying my background investigation had lapsed after 24 months without federal service so I'd have to submit a new eQIP.
Thankfully, they also told me that I was authorized to have interim clearance until that's done, so it shouldn't be a problem with the upcoming academy.

Anyone have updates on offer letters or academy dates? I was told soon on October 9th.

once you get your background started.. what is next? When are you supposed to receive the preference sheets? How are backgrounds being conducted now? Phone? In person?

Once they get it started you wait. You'll talk to your investigator a few times, do an interview with him/her, and wait until you're cleared. My background check was cleared in September 2018 and I only recently saw movement with the preference sheet in October. Of course, I've heard others get their background check and move right along super quick! My experience my be different since I had my assigned HR guy retire (after never hearing anything from him) and then heard nothing for a long time, only seeing movement after I reached out to gradually higher-level people.

All BIs are done by phone now. I am an 8/2018 applicant and I haven’t had a BI done for this job but I had a t5 done end of 2018 for my current job. I filled out equip in June 2020, got pref sheet in September 2020, submitted updated equip form early November 2020. Still waiting on an update on next steps.

Everyone, just got a call from HR to offer me the position. So they are in fact calling. We are going over some details and I have yet to accept. For all of you that are waiting it seems that it is coming at last!
