I agree that it would make sense to have the internals/externals to start at the same time. I hope this helps.

We appreciate your inquiry to HR and providing us the info!

At least we know that it's ongoing.

Thanks!

Hope that helps.

Ok, so you're already working in the IRS right now, in another position. I would consider than an "internal" even if you applied externally. It has to do with you already being in the system and having "preference eligibility" in hiring.

I appreciate you clearing that up. Internals get hired first.

The last word we have on external hiring is the inquiry that Rs99 made and informed us about today; The TOs are in progress.

Thanks to both of you!

That tells me that I'm still being considered.

Excellent day!

Congratulations!

Can you tell us what state or area of the country the TCO offer was for? It's a Nationwide announcement.

Thank You!

By the way, your profile name resembles the name of an old-school rapper from NYC from the '80s... hehe.

Shows my age haha! I'll be the old guy in the room, for sure. The TCO offer was for Southern California.

Actually you wouldn't be considered "internal" if you weren't before. However, I was an "internal" they was not grouped with internals and I am being treated as an external. FYI I have been with the IRS since last February and it was during a reschedule of the interview when I mentioned it that it was discovered that I was internal.

Anyway, no I have not received a TO for TCO either. I interviewed the day before Thanksgiving and besides an email asking for location rankings nothing has happened.

And of course the change of powers could be the reason everything is slowing down, but all I can say is stay patient!

If you don't mind me asking what city in Southern California? I also interviewed in SoCal, however the location I applied for was in San Bernardino, but from my understanding they had open positions in El Monte, and Glendale.

Offer was for Woodland Hills. I applied to other locations closer to where I live, but the interviewers also said the only openings were Woodland Hills, El Monte, and Glendale.

Hello,

The March 1st start date provided to many Internal hires is coming soon and they haven't notified Externals yet.

Usually, per my previous IRS experience, both would start on the same date. They usually notify new hires more than 2 weeks before starting, because of the bi-weekly payroll, at the latest or with more time because of the documentation needed to be signed for onboarding per the usual Tentative Offer agreement procedures for new hires.

So, they're cutting it close. It could mean that they will either hire externals with a later start date or they are pushing back the start date for all.

Does anyone have any information on that?

Thanks,

Nick

P.S. I emailed HR last week but haven't heard back.

What's the difference between a tax specialist and a TCO?

If you get chosen to interview, what's the probability you will even get the position?

What kind of interview questions do they ask? Panel?

The manager position I interviewed for had a panel of 2 Dept Manager and 1 Operation Manager. It was an hour long. It was intense.

TCO seems to be type of tax specialist. Every tco has the official title of tax specialist.

The interview is pretty much situational, while Manager positions are more behavioral.

I interviewed for SoCal Tax Specialist position in November (internal) and received my tentative offer in December and final offer in January. I have not heard from HR beyond “let us mail you a laptop”, but I’m assuming they’ll just postpone orientation if need be.

Last they told me orientation starts 3/1 and whether it’s be remote or in-person is TBD.

On Monday it will be just 2 weeks away from that March 1st reporting date.

Did your final offer inform you where you had to report? I'm surprised they haven't informed you if they are pushing back unless they do it later today or on Monday. If they don't say anything, it means they're expecting you to report per the final offer.

It seems that externals are being pushed back if they don't cancel the hiring altogether because there's not enough time for externals to receive a Tentative Offer, submit the documentation requested, fill out onboarding documents by March 1st at the same time they provide notice to there current employment.

I'm afraid that the announcement can be canceled and then reopened because the closing date of this announcement was back on June 2020 and they can't go over a certain amount of time to fulfill an announcement per OPM rules unless there is an exception made, etc.

I emailed Human Resources at the end of January and haven't received a response.

I also reached out to the person that had contacted me to set up the interview a few days before I emailed Human Resources and she said that Tentative Offers for externals were still pending.

That's all the information I have.

I guess the next timeframe that we're waiting for and paying attention to is the 03/01/2021 reporting date for Externals if nothing happens between now and then...

Thanks for sharing! If anyone has or receives any other information, especially about the external hiring, please share it here even if you do it anonymously or vaguely.

Thanks!

I don’t see any reason why it will be pushed back. You will hear about orientation before your start date, maybe a week or so. I think it might depend on your manager.

Your orientation will most likely be virtual. The TCOs are not back in the office.

Do you know if they're conducting office audit interviews by phone or are they just working with correspondence?

Thanks for the information.
