I agree. You must have an open mind about being sent anywhere or this may not be the place for you. Many people get their heart set on a few cities and all that does is set you up for disappointment.

Sorry if this has been explained on another post, but what exactly is Q like right now with COVID?
You completely quarantine for two weeks upon arrival, in a room by yourself. You can leave a couple hours a day? Random question: what are the rooms like? Windows?
After the two weeks, are you placed with a roommate or still solo? Do things generally go back to 'normal' such as with classes and all the training? Are you allowed to leave at all?
I'm sure many changes will occur as the year plays out. Just curious what it's like right now.

Hi TeachRH,
This topic actually answers all your q's and some more! Not that many pages so I'd just go back and read them. Good stuff in here.

Couldn't find this info, but how is haircut maintenance done at Q? Bring my own buzzer or allowed to go to barbershop?

I'm sure many changes will occur as the year plays out. Just curious what it's like right now. Rooms are nice. They are similar to hotel rooms. Yes, you have a nice big window in each room. The day is broken up between your outdoor times and online trainings, so the quarantine really isn’t bad. After the two weeks you can leave academy grounds, but not the marine base overall. Hope this helps!

Sorry I tried responding on here several days ago but I couldn't post for some reason. There is a barber, but you won't have access to the barber until after quarantine.

Based on the IAs I’ve spoken with, it sounds like the process is the same for both. They both put in their wish lists and get informed of their assignment on week five (I think). I’ve heard that the bulk of IAs go to headquarters in DC and the other major field offices (NY, LA, SF). But I also know a guy who got a relatively small FO out of the Q because he ranked it number one and they had an opening. Also, if it helps, I’ve heard it’s very rare for SAs to go to DC after Quantico. Maybe the person you were speaking to was confused (?). Edited by user Tuesday, February 2, 2021 3:02:07 PM(UTC)

Man that’s a good question and I really don’t know. The things I’ve heard about DC (that I mentioned above) were mainly in the context of Headquarters, not the Washington FO.

Does it mean all those are open for solicitation?

Hey Folks, hopefully I make it through the final IA steps but...the CJOs we are accepting indicate we are going to DC for our posting. Should we seek housing before getting to Quantico or will we have time if and once we make it through the 13 week IA Quantico process?

I don't know what the housing market is over there, but if you're renting looking too early won't mean much when landlords are seeking tenants to come in rather quickly.

You don't actually get your assignment until week 4 or 5. So definitely don't try to secure housing now. Unless you put DC as your #1, which should pretty much guarantee that's where you're going. I believe the CJOs use Washington since that is HQ and where apps are processed. I'm fairly certain everyone's says that. Not sure why they can't just leave it blank or TBD. Must be something to do with whatever system they use to issue CJOs. Edited by user Wednesday, February 10, 2021 9:40:54 AM(UTC)

I spoke with the HR representative and asked the same question. DC is used for the pay scale until a final duty location is assigned and you start there. received my e-Qip stuff yesterday and got it returned back to the local FO. Hopefully this train gets a movin'... I'm sure ready! Originally Posted by: IAdreamin You don't not actually get your assignment until week 4 or 5. So definitely don't try to secure housing now. That makes a lot more sense than just needing to fill a box to initiate a CJO. |

I couldn't. At some point during the beginning stages of Q you'll be asked to rank every FO though. |

Nope. HR rep told me that DC is used strictly for pay scale reasons. Week 1 of the academy we will have to rank our FO preference list. Said by week 4 we will have our final, official duty station. While we are in Quantico, we will be receiving DC pay scale (so whatever they told you on your CJO...unless that GS pay band/step changes before final offer). Once we get out of Quantico, we will report back to our CURRENT local FO. We have 90 days to get our affairs in order in our CURRENT location and get to our assigned duty station. But once we leave Q, we will be on the pay scale/locality pay of our assigned FO. So if you live in Jackson MS now, once you leave Q you will return to Jackson for up to 90 days. You will get your house packed, train temporarily in Jackson, and get moved. Then you will have to report to lets just say Denver. But you will be on Denver pay as soon as you leave Q. I think you're getting WFO and HQ mixed up. They're two different things. Also the Huntsville campus isn't a field office just like the CJIS building in Clarkesburg, WV isn't a field office. Edited by user Thursday, February 25, 2021 10:42:36 PM(UTC)
