Internal Revenue Service
As a bureau of the Department of the Treasury and as one of the world's most efficient tax administrators, the IRS role is to help the large majority of compliant taxpayers with the tax law, while ensuring that the minority who are unwilling to comply pay their fair share. (Source: www.irs.gov)

It’s not that you can’t take leave. I took leave for a funeral and doctors appointments.
It needs to be kept to a minimum. You’re training year is important. You need all the time with your OJI as you can get.
The hardest year in this job is your second year. You have no one to help you and you better know where to find answers.

The hardest year in this job is your second year. You have no one to help you and you better know where to find answers. Another thing I want to add is you cannot request annual leave when you have a mandatory training in advance (Unit 1-Unit 4). Thats essentially the only time you cannot use annual leave but there could be an exception for funeral arrangements, but sick is more appropriate for that if you have sick because you will more than likely be at that training already although I know someone missed Unit training once due to something being planned in advance so it was annual. You can use sick leave at the Units, but that needs to be coordinated with the instructors at the Unit training and your GM. This happened at one of my Units to one of the students. The key to using your leave is to use it appropriately. If you have it, as long as it isn’t affecting your workload, training or hurting the IRS, the GM has to approve it but just be careful using it since your probationary period is when they decide if they will keep you or not. As Scotty said, the OJI period is very important but I will say, it takes much longer than that period to actually be consistently good with doing the job so in conclusion, just be very careful when and how you request leave. Hope this helps!

If someone has no other military or civilian time with the Govt it’s 4 and 4 per pay period. Plus no weekends and 13 paid holiday Yes I have 7 years total of service. That is great to know! Thank you!

I was just looking again at the email that came on Friday. Looks like they are going to be making calls for interviews in the next 2-4 weeks. Part of that email: Based on your application and submitted documentation, we found you to be among the Best Qualified for the position. As a result, we referred your name to the Selecting Official. You may be contacted for an interview within the next 2-4 weeks. Edited by user Monday, May 17, 2021 7:17:10 PM(UTC)

I do know that you start to accrue annual and sick leave from day one. The amount of annual depends on how much federal service you have. If you don't have any you accrue 4 hours a pay period of annual and 4 hours of sick leave. I attended a virtual session and they discussed that. You do start accruing your first day. So the very first pay period is where you'd see your annual and sick accruals.

Congrats!!! What location did you get referred to? I got a call today to set up an interview for Des Moines, but I took it off my preference list over a month ago. Hoping it doesn't take too long to hear back for my updated preference list.

If I were you, I would contact Human Resources and ask if the system updated your preference list correctly. Good luck with that! Edited by user Tuesday, May 18, 2021 10:32:21 AM(UTC)

I also received a BQ email for GS9. However, it was also for only one location and it was one I swapped out for others when I was able to update preferences a little while ago. Does anyone know if I am either to switch this somehow or if there is still a chance I may receive a referral for the other locations whether or not they are the updated ones? Bottom line is all the other locations are in my state (either updated ones or not) and of course the one location out of state I got referred for.

No follow up email about referral or anything. Don't know if it would have stated Best/Well Qualified in this email or another (or if this is the email where you're only qualified but not the top groups)...
Anyone get the same? You did not BQ. Do you happen to know if this is based on a weaker resume/experience or the results of the ROSA? I have no idea. So I guess I am bottom of barrel, but ...they did grant GS-9 up to this point. We shall see how it goes from this point. Thanks Scott. I'd written this job off since I'd only gotten a "Meets Basic Qualifications" email last week. BUT...I just got a BQ/referral email GS-09 for Nor Cal (only one location). I thought I was down and out...so happy to be in the running still. Edited by user Tuesday, May 18, 2021 1:30:07 PM(UTC)
