For those from 8/18 group still waiting...be patient. Your time is near!
Take care. Stay safe.

Sorry to hear that but glad you found something else!

Tentative offers are going out for the summer 2020 vacancy announcement. I interviewed in March 2021. I'm hoping they'll rely on my Army Top Secret from 2020, but it sounds unlikely.

Are there international opportunities for DIs? I know that DEA has offices in other countries, but what are the requirements for getting picked to go overseas? I would assume that the preference sheets before the academy only list domestic choices and that you’d have to have some tenure before working at a foreign post?

There are international posts for DIs, but the job is slightly different. You have to start out in a domestic post and reach a certain level before you can apply for an international location.

In reference to international or overseas postings - you must be a GS-13. It's usually a 3 year tour. You can request/apply to extend for an additional 3.

In reference to overtime - it is primarily case driven. If you need to work overtime on a case you, get overtime pay. Your Program Manager and Group Supervisor also have a say in overtime. If I can, I avoid OT by all means. But that's me.

Just a personal choice. I strive to get what needs to be done in 8 hours. Don’t get me wrong, I’ll will work OT but only if absolutely necessary. If there is something that can wait until the next duty day, it’ll wait. I’m not working OT just to work OT. Now somethings can’t wait and I have to work OT. I can’t just walk away in the middle of a search warrant or interview when 5:00 pm hits. As much as I love this job and wouldn’t change a thing, my personal time is valuable to me. I like my family time and my “me” time more. I get a pretty good salary and don’t need the extra money OT brings. I work to live. I don’t live to work.

Hi all! I’m new here! I took my Diversion Investigator Assessment on 7/3/2021. How long does it usually take to hear back if I passed? I thought I did ok but it’s passed a month so I’m worried I might have failed now

Typically they won’t tell you whether you passed the assessment or not. If they call you for an interview that means you passed. Just remember this can be a slow painful process and it could be months before you hear anything, so don’t start worrying if they haven’t contacted you.

I completed the assessment on May 22 of last year and they didn't call me to schedule an interview until the very end of October. They don't ever tell you if you passed or failed. Only way you know is if you get a random interview call. It's an insanely long process so stick with it and be patient!

If you call HR and ask, they'll tell you.

one and a half year lurker, first time poster.

Does anyone know how long we might have before getting a final offer from the time of our security interview?

It’s not a concrete process. It’ll be different for everyone. It took me almost 10 months for that process to come full circle for others it was longer. It also may depend on when they plan on holding the next class and how much they are working on processing the DI paperwork, since there are 3 other core series in DEA that go to the academy as well.

Agree with AZShadow! I had applied summer 2018, tested Oct 2018,, panel interview April 2019, background interview April 2020, preference sheet and final offer Jan 2021 for the Feb 14 or so 2021 academy, and in may class we had a a couple 2017 applicants, a lot of 2018s, and a small small number of 2019s

Here was my timeline:

Applied May 2018
Tested July 2018
Panel Interview April 2019
Drug and Medical Tests/Exams November/December 2019
Completed my Eqip online January 2020
Interview for background March 2020 (2 days before everything shut down for COVID)
Preference sheet April 2021
Final offer May 14, 2021

I wound up declining the offer because I had received an offer from somewhere else, ironically the same day as DEA's offer, if you can believe it. I declined DEA's because the other offer wound up being a better fit for me. I was surprised because for 3 years, it was gonna be DEA for me without a doubt, but...like a longshot horse in the Kentucky Derby, this other offer came from behind, and it was literally a down-to-the-wire finish. LOL They called in the morning with their offer, DEA called that afternoon.

Hi everyone!
I'm new to the process... applied and took the online assessment in May 2021 for a posting that closed June 3rd, and I just took the proctored exam this morning. Fairly confident that I passed the exam, but a little stressed about it because when I finished the exam and clicked the submit button, the webpage loaded and then just went blank. The proctor said, "oh, I think it probably went through." Not exactly confidence inspiring, and I would hate to be disqualified because of a technical error. :/

Even if I pass, the hiring process is so long that I'm not sure this would work out for me. I wish I had known about this position 12-15 years ago! lol

Same situation as Stimpy where I timed out during the writing portion. I'm possibly getting towards the end of the process now, when I thought I was done right after the test.
