VA (Department of Veterans Affairs)

The United States has the most comprehensive system of assistance for veterans of any nation in the world. This benefits system traces its roots back to 1636, when the Pilgrims of Plymouth Colony were at war with the Pequot Indians. The Pilgrims passed a law which stated that disabled soldiers would be supported by the colony. The establishment of the Veterans Administration came in 1930 when Congress authorized the President to "consolidate and coordinate Government activities affecting war veterans."

This forum also includes the Veterans Health Administration (VHA).

Coming in as a new hire as a Lpn at the community living center. Is working there a nightmare? I just wanted to get my foot in the door. How soon can you start applying for other jobs that I’d be qualified for at others va’s?

I am a LPN that does not work at the CLC but i have several friends that do, they love it but they also have LTC experience. If you are wanting to work for the Government my advice is to take ANY position that you can afford to and go from there. I believe that you have to spend a year in a position before you can transfer to another. I started here in 2019 and have never looked back. I took a pay cut to work here BUT since i have started i have had several pay increases and yearly salary bumps as well from the president. My 401K is at $11,000 in 2.5 years of being here due to their matching. The pension is amazing! Do not second guess yourself, take the job, then move once you get in.
Good Luck!

I wish I read your response at the beginning of this week. I was supposed to get an final offer this week, but I requested they review my paystubs for increase in salary. I recently went back to a couple of agencies and picked up shifts. I’ve been with these companies since 2019. I was really picking up shifts from them since mar 2020. When I applied I put one of them on my application and resume but not the other. I got a message from hr sayingy credentialing is not confirmed and I can’t get a final offer until this is cleared up. **!!! Ever hear of this happening to someone.? Thanks for your response
