Reemployed Annuitants

Generally speaking, the treatment of a retiree's annuity and pay upon reemployment in the Federal Government depends upon whether he or she retired on the basis of a regular, involuntary, or disability retirement. Potential benefits that may be earned as a result of the reemployment service depend primarily on the length of such service.

Some details on Reemployed Annuitants may be found in a PDF file at OPM's Web Site by clicking here.

If you have questions regarding how this can affect you, feel free to post the quesitons here. Or perhaps you have been through this process before and can offer some helpful suggestions...please share.

Q#1 I am an 1811, 6c, CSRS, eligible to retire. I am interested in becoming a reemployed annuitant. I found an 1811 position at DHS and in the PD it said:
"Secondary Law Enforcement Retirement: This position is approved for Secondary Law Enforcement retirement coverage under 5 USC 8331 and 840 (17). Previous experience in a primary (rigorous) law enforcement position, or the equivalent outside the Federal Government, is a prerequisite. Law enforcement retirement coverage is extended only if this position immediately follows service in a law enforcement covered-position."
Does anyone know what the rules are to qualify and what kind of retirement benifits you get. What is the time frame of "immeadiatly follows", Is there still a mandatory age 57 retirement?
Q#2 There was a similar PD for an 1801. What kind of retirement does an 1801 reemployed annuitant get? Thanks
