Does anyone know what the "Service Computation Date" is?  I was asked this on my application...  Thanks!!!

Here is OPM's definition- "The date, either actual or constructed by crediting service, used to determine benefits that are based on how long the person has been in Federal service." Since you are not yet a Federal employee, you don't have one yet.

Once you actually start your SCD will be the day you start, once HR gets the paperwork processed, it will be backdated to include creditable military service plus any other creditable federal civilian service.

Now I understand... However, is the SCD question normally present on any application? I have never seen this question on any of my applications in the past. Thanks!!!

I just saw it for the first time for a job I just applied for. It seems rather odd to me and I am not sure of the purpose.
