Hello all.
I have applied to a government position, I got what they call Executive Eligibility ( I can be selected withouth further stuff..?Unhappy)and also I am currently  in INWS Status ( Intermittent No work Schedule, basically employee with no pay until I find something Question) with State plus I am eligible to reinstatement.Big smile

I received an email TH from the HR person first saying" you met all the requirements and your application was among those referred to the selecting official(s) for the grade shown above for consideration. You may be contacted if an interview is needed."

Later on FR I got an email, from USAJOBs plainly saying  " Application Referred to Selecting Official"
What does this mean? I need help in reading this stuff between the linesDisapprove ... What are my chances of beein hired or getting an interview? Confused

Hi Ric - I've received emails like that all the time and I'm still waiting to hear back from those agencies. Unhappy However I can tell you that this is a good sign (I look at it this way theres a 50/50 chance that they'll want me)- lets just hope and pray that the selecting official or the HR contact will get in contact with you should they be interested in you.

All it means is that your resume has been sent to the selecting official.   it means that you were in the best qualified group.  It doesn't guarantee getting hired or an interview.  I get them all the time from the Navy, and haven't gotten an interview or been selected yet.

My resume was referred to the selecting official at DCMA, and I was called for an interview.  I was interviewed by a panel of three, and when it was over, I was told that they're just doing the interviewing, and the hiring official will be making the final decision.  And they take their time about it too......

I totally agree.  I keep applying and hope that someone will select me.   I don't give up.

No. It really doesn't make a difference. The selecting official has your application. If he or she is interested, you'll get a call.
I am sorry, but I do not have the time to respond to private messages. I will not respond to them.

Ric,

Your extra eligibility criteria can help you qualify for a greater number of openings.  For example, some positions are only open to "current federal employees and reinstatement eligibles."  If you were not one of those, your application wouldn't be considered, even if you had tons of applicable experience and a kick-a$$ resume.

Once you are determined to be Eligible (you turned in all required documents, you met any limitation criteria and basic  mandatory qualifications), then they start to look at your suitability for the position (skills, education, experience, spelling, etc.).  Being "referred to selecting official" means you made it over the first hurdle (or second, depending on how you define getting eligibility).  So, being referred is MUCH better than not being referred, but there are still more hurdles to come.

Of course, this is just my interpretation; I am not an HR Specialist, just a long-term fed.

Best of luck to you!

I feel your pain. I got a referral from the Navy in Jan 2010 for a job I really want. Still no interview, but I keep moving forward. :)

Hi Ric,

The second notification was a system generated message. As part of the Recruitment One Stop initiative, application status is supposed to be updated at USAJOBS.  You received and email from the specialist stating you were being referred. The specialist updated your status in their Staffing system which sent an update to USAJOBS, hence the "two" notifications.

As for your eligibility, agencies all have different names for RIF'd employees, but essentially you are CTAP/ICTAP, and yes, if you meet the qualifications then by rule, you should get first shot at a job over an equally qualified person from the outside.

I see no evidence in what Ric has provided that he is eligible for CTAP/ICTAP consideration.
I am sorry, but I do not have the time to respond to private messages. I will not respond to them.

Hello guys,

Thanks for all you replies Smile. My eligibility has been shown in the SF50s that I enclosed. I have not been riffed neither I have CTAP/ICTAP eligibility. I got reinstatement eligibility ( previous continuous career work at Commerce) and also Executive Eligibility with State ( that i ssupposed to allow you to literally bypass the hiring process... whatever that meansDead), and applicable to any gov agency Big smile.

The rules sound greatLOL, but how do we enforce them? Apparently there is no way besides trusting HR however I find them pretty dissapointing due to their own lack of understanding of rules.Angry

Is it worth it contacting HR thru a cold phone call? QuestionProbably not.

How do I find out about in-house positions that are not listed. however eligibility allows me to apply to them. It is obvious thru phone call or so, but is so cumbersome and unpractical.....
Networking? Wrong time for that! Right?Confused Any ideas?  Big smile

Thanks
Ric Cool
