Hey everyone,

Just curious if anyone has seen these postings up on USAJobs.  Also wondering if anyone here is currently at one of these positions within the DEA (and at what GS level).  I have very little work experience as I just graduated with my Master's in CJ, but just wanted to see if anyone was out there who has one of these positions (not even just within DEA, but elsewhere) and what is the best way to tackle the application and the response questions.

Thanks

I saw them and I'm curious if they are really filling all of those positions at all of those field offices right now.  I'm hoping so, but it seems like quite a few openings at once.

Specifically, I'm wondering if anyone can really guide me through what the final application can look like. The posting is a bit ambiguous. Is it just a resume, the drug history form, and responses to the three questions? (For the GS9 jobs).

I'm wondering how long the responses should be or what limit they give.

Not sure if you are still working on this but here is a good guide to walk you through the KSA: http://www.vfwmi.org/Vet...Fed%20KSA%20Handbook.pdf

Ah, thank you very much.  This was really helpful in refining my answers!

I think the reason that they are only using the resume and cover letter now for this position is because of the hiring reform that the President has mandated.

I am also interested in this position.  I have noticed that the research spec for st louis was taken off of USAJOBS.GOV.  Has anyone else noticed this?

For some reason USA JOBS snatched the Intell Specialist off the list for Boston and Manchester....anyone know why?

Yea, someone screwed up somewhere. There were job listings for the IRS in Charlotte NC, Raleigh NC, Columbia SC, and Charleston SC as well.  I guess these jobs actually don't exist.

I believe the St. Louis job as well as many of the other positions were erroneously labeled as GS-13's. Many of the rest were GS-9's and even those appear to be pulled before deadline. I agree, I think somebody goofed up.

Has anybody heard back from HR after applying for one of these positions?  Do they send a confirmation? I haven't heard anything.  I applied for 3 of them.

I heard that even though they were posted as a general announcement, they are going to use the listing to convert existing IA's from excepted service to status.

Ray,
I have not heard anything, but I think they said in the announcement that it could take 45 days for them to make a decision.

I unfortunately did not keep a copy of the announcement, and now it is inaccessible on usajobs since our application was not submitted through their site.

hoskjo,

I sure hope not. That would be awful for those of us who applied.

I applied as well.  I spoke with an IA that I worked with at DEA and he is the one who told me about it because he was "encouraged" to apply for the position under for the status appointment.  I called him after I posted the above and after talking to him, I think the positions that were listed as 13's are the positions for "status" and the one's that were listed as 7's and 9's were for everyone else.  Good luck on the position.

OK, that is much better! I knew that there was no way I could get a GS-13 position as those seem to require very specialized experience which you pretty much can't get unless you were a GS-11 in the same field. So, I did not apply for the GS-13 positions.

It would be GS-12, you need one year then you would qualify for the GS-13 position.

I share in the confusion on this posting.  Strange to E-MAIL something in and even stranger not to even get an acknowledgement that it was received.

I applied for the AZ slots.  About 3-5 months ago the DEA attempted to hire these out through a contractor to which I applied.  The contractor was flakey and eventually I received e-mails stating that I didn't qualify.  To see them post for 5 positions in AZ through USAJOBS was strange.  Even if this was for internal candidates it seems an odd way to hire...who knows.  Guess I'll keep hoping that something comes through.

Yes, that is what I meant. I caught it after I posted, but couldn't edit the post and I decided not to post again just to correct my mistake. But, thank you; I would not want to leave the wrong impression for those who might not have known.

I just heard something back today.  In AZ there were three separate locations.  The e-mail I received today asked which positions I'd be interested in.

Guess that's something.  Glad to know that my application made it to the right place!
